not odd. If I subscribe to monthly deliver (Pre-Sales) of Pop Hits I am purchasing X # of tracks each month at a discount without knowing what I am getting.

As I stated earlier, if you check the site again, the Feb. 28 deadline is no longer in the ad, yet the $500 price tag is still there. I suppose many conclusions could be reached is regards to why they would solicit a purchase before: 1) the makeup of the product has been decided upon; 2) the product is ready for purchase; 3) a date for delivery has been determined and/or made known.

But there is a major difference. If you subscribe to a disc of the month, you are paying for new music just being released, so the odds are that you don't already have it in your library. Buying the Gem set sight unseen, unless it's new music, you could quite possibly just end up duplicating 1200 tracks you already have. For most of us one rig operators, that just equates to throwing money away, not smart at all. The cost of buying all those duplicates would pay for a heck of a lot of NEW music.

But then a GEM may not be not for you. However, if you decide to start a second or third rig, it may just be a product for you. As with any procurement, you have to check the pros and cons of what you want and how you want to finance it, whether it is cash or on credit.

KarenB the offer that SC has now, is for GEM series owners(and certified hosts if they want it) it is 1200 SC tracks that were not included in the GEM series. If you are a GEM series purchaser then you are assured of 1200 additional unduplicated tracks from SC.

The point still remains that you're still spending $500 for something sight unseen, you don't know what you're getting. Just because none of the songs are duplicated on a Gem set doesn't mean that a "certified" host couldn't get the new set and then find out that they already have almost every song in the set on a Spotlight or Star Series disc. How is spending $500 on old music that you already have good business? And Tim to reiterate, I'm NOT talking multi-rigging, just your average one system KJ who works a couple nights a week, which probably describes the vast majority of KJ's out there.

And that's just it. Every song in the set could be a smash hit that everyone wants to sing. But if you already have the majority of them on a CDG why would you want to waste your money duplicating what you already have? By just getting the set blindly that's what you risk doing and that's just bad business.

As I said, if you're disc based with a healthy amount of songs, then this is not aimed at you. We are disc based and will not buy this. Just like Henry Ford never wanted a Cadillac. The bottom line is you do not have to buy it, titles unseen, right now or ever, if you don't want to.

I don't see why this is such a difficult concept to understand. If you want the early bird sale price, you get them now while the list is still being finalized. If you want to know every song prior, you wait and pay the standard price.
That's all. Nothing sinister or underhanded.

HOWEVER: NOTHING has been said about the price increasing after the list of songs is released. To speak more generally of the whole thing, NOTHING has been said about ANYTHING I am not certain who can get anyone in the know to speak up about this. To say, OK, buy this product, here is a lower-than-retail price for it, and just wait and see what you get. I would be willing to give the benefit of the doubt that putting a customer in this position would not be a company's intention, especially one that might be in need of some serious PR repair...

sales end and then the price returns to retail. You can not get the Gem series now for the sales price last year. Why would you think differently about this add-on ?

The only thing I am speaking to is the CURRENT state of things. Despite track record or what not, NO ONE can speak as to the future of these details. What is concerning me is that no one directly from the source is speaking as to even the CURRENT state of things... ...at least not in a meaningful way, business-wise...

Oh, just send them the money already. They would never steer you wrong. Karaoke Companies are all honest law abiding establishments that would never do anything wrong.

I'm really not sure exactly what the complaint is here.
The track lists haven't been released because they haven't been finalized yet. Part of the problem, and perhaps all of it, is that we have been waiting on licenses to be executed and repertoire listings to be finalized. I know there has also been some customer feedback (and by that, I mean actual customers, and not people who gripe about SC whenever they get the chance) as to what was to be included.
If you don't like pre-ordering this material because you want to see what the product is before committing, then don't. SC will be happy to sell you the product when you're ready to buy.
