OK...all metaphors aside, I figured I would ask the questions directly for those affected:

Mr. Harrington, does SC have a completed list of tracks for the set, and if so, are they going to release it before the price increase? If you do not know the answer, would you seek out the answer and relay it here as a conduit to the forum?

Has anyone here ever bought a "Grab Bag" type of sale from this sponsor of Karaoke Scene?

http://www.acekaraoke.com/freecb0200.html#.UTz1clcqzt8

Anyone want to trash talk Ace Karaoke on this forum and see what happens to you?

anyone ever hear the expression, "buying a PIG in a poke"?

The scheme entailed the sale of a suckling pig or pup in a poke (bag). The bag would actually contain a cat or dog (not particularly prized as a source of meat), which was sold to the victim in an unopened bag. The French idiom acheter (un) chat en poche (to buy a cat in a bag) refers to an actual sale of this nature, as do many European equivalents, while the English expression refers to the appearance of the trick.

I always love it when I can leave a lawyer speechless. I wasn't even sure if it was possible. LOL

I've never bought a grab bag from them for $500. Have you?

Not quite 100% true.... SC has a restriction on that sale. You must be either a prior GEM Series customer, or you must be a Certified KJ. I am neither.

And, to comment further on those restrictions:

1. I have no need to spend my money on the GEM Series, because I already own 55 SC discs, and what I don't have from the 6,000 songs on the GEM Series, I have more than made up for with my little over 1000 CDGs (AH, DG, DK, JVC, KC, LC, MM, NIK, PIO, PS, PHM, PHT, SBI, THM, etc...).

2. SC has been promising to set in place a Certification process for people like me (ODB KJs) for about 1 year now. The word used 1 year ago was "SOON." Now, the words are, "Soon... sometime AFTER the release of the Emerald and Sapphire series" (which probably will be after this sale expires too). Also, 1 year ago, it was said by Mr. Harrington, that this Certification process would be at no cost to the ODB KJ. NOW, he is singing a different tune.

 Really? REALLY? It's not rocket science...it's common sense.

The list isn't finalized! (fact) The set is on sale! (fact)

When the list is finalized, it may or may not still be on-sale...I don't know, but I would bet it won't be. Hey, maybe you will get lucky but if interested...I wouldn't wait around.

This discussion has gone from asinine to just plain silly.

Since you quoted me, I will respond. I trust you did not decide to call this silly because I asked a simple and direct question. Perhaps some of the prior drivel about unrelated subjects might qualify, but try quoting someone else if that is the case.

I believe it is acceptable for folks interested in this, and under these EXACT circumstances, to want to know what is going to be in the new GEM sets. Obviously, they cannot be made to answer, but a courteous response would certainly be appreciated, I am sure.

One other thing: please explain how you KNOW for a FACT the list is not finalized...(I guess I do have a problem who use all-inclusive terms without anything to back it up--I consider it an abuse of the English language when there ARE terms that are more accurate)

a few pages back Harrington wrote

"I'm really not sure exactly what the complaint is here.

The track lists haven't been released because they haven't been finalized yet. Part of the problem, and perhaps all of it, is that we have been waiting on licenses to be executed and repertoire listings to be finalized. I know there has also been some customer feedback (and by that, I mean actual customers, and not people who gripe about SC whenever they get the chance) as to what was to be included.

If you don't like pre-ordering this material because you want to see what the product is before committing, then don't. SC will be happy to sell you the product when you're ready to buy."

OK...missed that...

However, it does seem like it would be a challenge to get discs prepared and ready to ship in three weeks if the list isn't completed. A nice bone to throw everyone might be a PARTIAL list, since it stands to reason that a portion of the list would need to be done by now, just to give potential customers a bit of an idea what they will be spending hundreds of dollars on...

My understanding is that they are waiting on one more licensing group to sign off, and they are waiting for another's repertoire listing to be completed. SC has been assured that approval is coming, but these are not things that SC can do much about other than to be persistent. I believe they are going to put the "voting" list back up tomorrow, which should give you some idea of what will be available.

But they did tell us what it is. 1200 additional non-duplicated GEM songs, coming soon.

Um, no. That tells us what it's not.

They are NOT duplicates of other GEMS.

That doesn't tell us what they are. Are they all dupes of SC tracks from CD+Gs that many already have in their collection? Are any completely new releases of current songs?

If I was a KJ with a sizeable SC CD+G collection, waiting for the song list would really be the only option. If I dupe discs that I already have, I lose the large investment made on either the originals or the GEMS ( unless, of course, I'm a multi-rigger and can use two sets of the same thing.)

I called it silly, because it is. It's a feeble attempt to paint SC in a bad light simply because they are running an early-bird sale. Something they absolutely did not have to do. It's comical that people are complaining about something being ON SALE! By all means, wait until the price goes up and you will know EXACTLY what you are getting.

What is obvious is that you haven't been following along. You will know EXACTLY what is going to be in the new GEM set when the list is finalized. Why can you not understand that?

Exactly. Which is all they ever claimed them to be.

Let me help you understand, since you are having such a difficult time. The new sets are nothing more than an extension of the GEM series, so you can expect them to be more of the same. Remember the Foundations? Then later they released the "Bricks"? These are the GEM bricks. And just like the Foundations & Bricks, they were compilations of existing SC material, but pre-ripped in pristine quality from the masters. Much like the main set, if you didn't need them, you wont need these either.

If you are a KJ with a sizable SC CD+G collection, then the GEM series is most likely not for you in the first place.

Again Joe, those with a large SC collection probably would not be interested and is probably not the targeted market.

Just to be clear, I have no problems with this pre-sale offering. If you don't mind dealing with SC and are building a new or additional library, it would make sense to jump on it. I would not have a problem with the new "bricks" going up in price after the release. There would be added value for some in knowing what the songs are if they had a limited library where this brick could fill in. It's the "only offering the lump" where I think there is a total lack of connection to the direction of the industry. Hey, maybe they plan to add a single download for "their" customers in the future and that would at least be a little more in line. Hey, maybe they could make enough for it to be worth while to actually sell music more than hassle "technical infringers".

8) The different tune Cue is that SC can no longer afford to do anything an no cost to themselves. They have to make money anyway they can in order to stay in business. You can tell when they are on the edge when they join Cloud and finally allow single downloads to their tracks. Have a blessed day.

Imagine that. A business trying to make money. For shame!

On the contrary. I would view a move like this as a brilliant calculation, not desperation. I for one hope it happens.

8) This can't happen Bazza since their current licensing strategy is to package their product in large track formations. They will never join Cloud unless desperate since this would do away with their whole legal process. The legal process is to drum up fear and to promote the licensing of their product. That is the current business model they are using. I do agree with you they should probably do both, but they won't as long as they hold to their present course. Have a blessed day.

Despite someone's negativity, apparantly my approach resulted in relative success. Again, I take issue with anyone who speaks in absolute terms and with a voice of authority who is not in that position, and then does so in a disparaging manner. That tone should be able to be avoided in conversing about these things. Receiving something as an attack, assuming something IS an attack, when that person is not the subject of the attack, is a bit misguided.

Oh, one quick CORRECTION: according to kjflorida, kjflorida is NOT kjathena, but is kjathena's husband. Although one may assume their voice is one and the same ;) for forum purposes they are two different people, and using their alleged first name is another attempt to assert one's self as an unsubstantiated person of knowledge, verified by the fact that they were 100% wrong about their identity.
