Trying to find a 3 ring binder, one that doesnt come apart at the D rings! $$ isnt an option at this point. ugh
I've paid the money for the best heavy duty that staples offers, still come apart

Lightly sand the tips of the rings and then apply a drop of solder.

Even better, ONE layer of scotch invisible tape. The rings won't open- it WILL hold, the pages slide over it more easily, and yet easily peels away with a knife to add more pages.

I'm with RLC. If you want a GUARANTEED way to prevent the pages from falling out, solder will do it best.

Scotch tape (bad). WILL catch on pages (sorry Joe). been there done that. super glue better.

BETTER SOLUTION but not cheap- Spring Post Binders by Itoya DON'T/CAN'T come apart!

BEST ECONOMIC SOLUTION- binders from costco at $4 each instead of avery binders at Staples for $15 each- same binder and with clear front insert.

The solder thing is something I've always wanted to try as you can use the iron to heat the bond to get the rings apart if you want to add more pages.

Tape didn't work for me as the pages did catch and it would eventually lose hold.

At the moment I'm doing the superglue thing but I stick in some empty page protectors for adding songs later. The super glued rings CAN be pulled apart with enough force if you need to keep adding later. If you don't like the look of empty pages in the books, you can stick in fillers like photos, or news or ads for upcoming shows and then just take them out as you need them.

Ace was advertising a notebook that was held together screws that wouldn't come apart yet could be opened easily when necessary. Never got a chance to try them.

I hate books. Love my kiosk. Still bring the books though, just don't get used.

I always bought mine at Wal Mart. They were cheap. The outer cover separating from the rest of the book was always my first problem from use/wear/tear.

Do they have plastic inserts for Combing binders? The best of both words. My biggest fear with this option is having the paper exposed all the time. At least inserts can be wiped off or pages replaced easily. Plus, these things could be folded into itself leaving bare paper on a beer soaked table.

I now bind all my books and print 1 to 10 page handouts for new additions. When I used 3 ring binders I had good luck by sliding heat shrink tubing over the rings.Much less tearing.

I use a plastic cover, front and back. What you described does happen occasionally, and it only takes one Strawberry Margarita accident to ruin a book, but that would ruin ANY book. I bind up eight or ten and by the time I am ready for re-prints I've usually only lost one...maybe two. I went to this method just so I DIDN'T have to stuff those d@mn page protectors!

How do you update books? Would be my only question. I am updating books almost weekly with new pages and don't want to have a new songs book floating around on top of the regular books. I think the material needed to create, would eventually overtake the 'savings' of having to reprint a new section each week.

It's very easy to drop the book in the machine, open the comb and add/remove pages. They are not bound for life.

I don't have the time to do weekly updates on books. I certainly would if I could. I update books about every 6 months, or when I have had a massive update, or when they get trashed.

So I would have to take the books home to update them (they stay at the club)? Normally I just print my pages at home and add them to the books at the club before my show - usually once a week - sometimes more often if I get something unexpectedly. Update & hand out. Like the concept, will have to look into it further. Pulling them apart once a week to update and rebuild seems like more hassle in my case.
