Heard so much about Dimples in SoCal. I'll check it out. Thanks for the info, NSK.

Adding Dimples to my list of places to go to. Also have to try to track down that episode. I had never even heard of that particular show.
Nice article! Thanks for posting!

Mixed feelings on that article. At first I was offended because I'm a 60 year old karaoke host. But then when I read about it--yuck--first rule is to make the women feel safe to come in and the rest will follow.
But the business about training the bartender to run the fool proof sound system was a bit disturbing.

-Chris Apparently Spike has some sort of promotion going on, as there are 'Bar Rescue' posters and table toppers all over the place at my one bar.

From the reviews already I'm impressed. I've been telling Karaoke Bar owners for years the same damn things. And they Just call me an (@$%!). I have been to Dimples It was dirty the owner was lewd and obnoxious (basically just a dirty old man) If he'd tired stuff like that with My Girlfriend I'd knocked him out wouldn't have cared at all about how old he was. Their DJ is TONE DEAF Thought every version of Karaoke sounded the same. When I travel I take my Favorite disc to sing with. The best thing he said is exactly what I keep trying to get other hosts and Bars to understand. When people get up to sing they should always feel like they are singing in a rock concert. And too many Karaoke hosts act liek they are doing the customer a favor by then being there. Most sing more than the customers. I DON'T and Won't! when I'm hosting. I like to help get the night started by Singing the first song and making adjustments to the board. Then hopefully the next singer I get it fine tuned. 30 Minutes and I get to watch I cant wait.

Half Way through the Show and Taffer almost kills the Chef!!!! I drove that Old guys Nuts when I was there. Kept asking for the same things Echo or Re verb Turn the Mic up. I wish they'd spent more time on the Karaoke aspects.

Sal says this was his worst night. It's been that bad every night. Next is the training I can't wait maybe even I could pick up a few tips.

Haven't had chance to watch it yet, but have been watching Bar Rescue religiously for quite a while. Taffer rocks when it comes to running the bar - not so sure about how much he knows about karaoke, but I genuinely like him and admire his knowledge in his field.

Would've liked to have seen the run down on the equipment list.

Interesting: The guy they brought in to train a new host (that only did the mic work- the technical side was run by a sound man in a booth) seemed like he knew something, at least in the very short time he was on. He was identified as Fred something, the owner of You Be The Star Karaoke, which they touted as the largest karaoke company in the country. I never heard of it, which doesn't really mean anything. However, me being me, I had to do a search, and tried several different engines. I found a company with that name out of Texas ONLY on a Myspace page that seems to have been unused for about two years, and seems to have been owned by someone named Leda. I also found a You ARE The Star, based in Indiana but owned by Lyle and Sonya Wilson. Luddite that I am, I'm quite still surprised that "the largest karaoke company in the country" has zero web presence...Hmmmmm..... Maybe over-advertised just a wee bit.

I find it interesting that he brought in Touch Tunes, like he's done on 2-3 shows that I've seen. Didn't run out and buy a GEM set and get "certified" by a single defunct company. If I was a working KJ, I'd be a little nervous that he took a minimum wage waitress and made her the host with the TT system (along with the sound guy). Thousands of bar owners will be seeing that and getting a new idea of what karaoke can be, plus the system automatically updates each month with new music. Also, karaoke is available 24-7, not just one specific event on one night.

Bar Rescue is a pretty good show i watch it weekly, usually 2-3 shows in a row. Entertaining and very informative on all aspects of the bar business including recipes for new drinks and design ideas and the latest bar hardware and software. John Taff, the host, is quite ballsey sometimes but knows his stuff and it's funny to watch him break down all these know-it-all-know-nothing bar owners as he corrects all of their mistakes and wins them over with the science of the bar business. The ones that don't listen deserve to go out of business because they'll keep making the same mistakes. This episode was kinda weak compared to others, but was interesting to see what little they showed on the karaoke part. A self-updating karaoke service that bars can put in and pay a server or person minimum wage + tips is a pretty scary thought though. I thought the lighting before the remodel was pretty annoying, but after, it didn't get much better for the singers, despite using led spotlights and such. I don't know. I guess i expected more from that show that usually delivers. It stated that 3 weeks after the remodel, Sal, the owner, started putting alot of the old stuff (antiques, projectors, memorabilia, etc) back into the restaurant, so it probably looks like it did before: a hoarder restaurant/bar. JD Meister should check it out and report back......? you're close, right? Okay, i'm tired and rambling...sorry..goodnite.

I watched it and it was a typical show. Lonnie, the speakers are JVC (they were part of the credits), the rest I didn't see as the credits went too fast. He put in a smoke machine which I personally wouldn't.
