I rather own the physical disc and rip it. I have however, downloaded a few times from Tricerasoft over the years, when I needed songs that I didn't have or not wanting to buy a whole disc for one song. But for the most part, 99% of my songs were ripped from discs.

What happened to 0%?

I am assuming that you meant this question to be just for computerized KJs, but, since I am an ODB KJ, I do use downloading (at least when I purchase new song tracks from these sites that don't offer custom burns on disc), and then I take the download and burn it to a disc to use at my shows. Of course, my preference is still to purchase karaoke song tracks on a disc.

That would be like polling people for their video format preference and having an option for "Betamax". I know it'd be nice to count all the old nostalgic relics from days gone by, but at some point you have to recognize they're no longer a factor, and 100% disc based KJs have kinda hit that category.

I guess you are meaning up to 25%?
I don't do a lot of downloads. My only downloads are from Karaoke-Version, otherwise I prefer custom discs when possible. So I would be in the up to 25%.

Uhhh... Please feel free to correct me if I am wrong, but...

With regard to the question presented, 0% would mean that the KJ has ripped everything to a Hard Drive (100% ripping), and is NOT using any downloads at his/her show (0% downloads). This has nothing to do with what I said about being an ODB KJ.

I fit in the 50% catagory because I purchased the 12000 chartbuster hard drive before Chartbuster went belly-up, and had discs covering 14000 tracks before that... lots of duplication and kids & gospel selections that I probably won't use, but the price was right, and I did get the "Certified Diploma" which I'll never use...

But now download probably 90% for current songs and customer requests... because you can't find too many companies/manus that are putting out quality compilations, mostly just fluff... so I'll go custom discs, or individual downloads until the Cloud service manages to satisfy the needs of the working KJ's...

99.999% of mine are ripped from my discs. I am not opposed to DL's, but there is nothing I want at this time.

i have most of what i can find on discs and so i buy from downloads mostly. i will buy a disc if it has enough to make the cost per usable song to $2.00 or less. purely financial based, cost per usable song.

100% of my new music is downloaded. To me, there is no need to spend extra just to keep obsolete hunks of plastic collecting dust on a shelf. I keep the receipts and make sure I have good backups.

I no longer buy discs for any new music. Almost all new music comes from downloads via iCroons.com

I still buy discs in bulk because that is the most cost effective way to pick up music for expanding rigs.

I hesitate to say that I am 100%download as I would leave open the option as a last resort, so I went 75% It's really more like 95%.

Most of mine are disc downloaded, 95%, but lately I've been buying just the song I need or requested by customer's. Funny, back during the vinyl era I would buy the LP just to learn one song. Karaoke was the same way when I first started, 15 songs and only wanted 1 or 2 off the disc. I really don't see the sense in having a library of 5,000 or 10,000 songs and only really use a couple hundred out of 3,000 I have as it is. I've been keeping a log of what songs the customers sing instead of looking up everybody's history.

...Naturally I started my collection with Karaoke CDGs plus a few LDs back in the day. I was doin' the DJ thing and then added Karaoke from 89-01. From 01-09, I did trade and or sale some of my Karaoke Discs but maintained a small library of around 600 discs up until 2009. This is when I purchased everything I needed which also included many updates.

...The Karaoke Music I purchased was all on CDG except for some PHM on MP3 Discs, some Chartbuster SD Cards and a Chartbuster 6000 HD. Although I did receive some free songs from a previous All Star purchase from a distributor. So I decided to try some downloads from them.

...I like discs and I don't. My reasons? I like them because: #1) I can rip or re-rip them to any format that I choose. #2) I can legally resale discs. #3) Although they are originals, they also serve as a backup. #4) Bad economy or piracy, they have been extremely discounted down in these last several years... I don't like them because: #1) I have to rip them. #2) Sometimes I have to buy a disc for just 1-3 songs yet it comes loaded with others that I don't need. #3) Yep, they take up a lot of space.

...Downloads are cool but from what I gather, you can't resale them legally. However, if the Cloud Services continue to grow (monthly fee for access to huge music libraries, including karaoke), any library (discs or downloads) probably won't be worth the plastic they're stored on.

As you might guess, zero downloads used as a source for karaoke tracks.

However:

SURPRISE! I do use downloads from Amazon for filler music and the occasional DJing that I do.

If it's on Mr Entertainer, it's more than likely on SBI. I prefer SBI over Mr Entertainer - same music but better swipes IMO. Downloads for me isn't a necessity, I have never lost a customer because I couldn't get a song NOW. I take requests & get them when I can.

I voted 0-25% only because such a small percentage of what I actually own is a download.

To be more accurate, I am 100% paid download for all NEW music and tracks that I don't already have. I am not aware of any NEW music that my singers request that can only be purchased on disc these days.
