What age is the age range of your crowd and which do you think was more fun? Mine was 40's to 70's at one. 20's to 30's at another. 40 through 70 was bigger crowd and more fun.

Have a blessed day. That's great. Mine mostly country, Conway, Loretta, ect....

The venues are too few and far between for me to have a niche type show. So I've got a traditional karaoke type venue with mostly 40s on up (still young ones mixed in), a venue with mainly 20 to 30 year olds and sometimes a kindergarten to pre-teen show. They all have their plusses and minuses.
I like the tiny kids because they sing the newest songs and it is fun to see their enthusiasm. The 20s to 30s show is more group scream in no order with a Cupid Shuffle break but their energy is fun as long as they aren't going Pete Townsend on the equipment. The traditional show is more my comfort zone with a polite and supportive audience but I do miss hearing some of the newer songs.
The show that takes the most work is the 20s to 30s as it can be more like being a ringmaster than a host. I also tend to get home at 4 or 5 a.m. But it can also be rather humorous and there are usually some really polite young ones who have their own band and write their own songs and blow the people away when they sing. I like them because they are nice to my equipment. The minuses are stepping around the puke in the parking lot when you load out or having to wait because someone is peeing behind my car.

IN GENERAL (always exceptions), at my bar:
The 20s-30s crowd is generally entitled, disrespectful, and drunk, and unfortunately make up about 60% of my crowd.
The 40+ crowd complains all night about the filler songs I play (and I actually have quite a good mix of the old and new), the volume, and the 20s-30s, but fortunately only make up about 10% of my crowd.
My most well mannered, respectful, and fun patrons are always the 30s-40s crowd. They clap for the singers, tip me and the bartenders well, appreciate old and new filler music, and don't get sloppy drunk. Unfortunately, they only makeup abotu 30% of my crowd.

My downtown Seattle gig runs the gamut. Usually I get folks in their late 20's to mid 30's. Lots of white collar, startup entrpreneurs, own their own business types. GREAT, FUN CROWD! But being a tourist and residential area, we have folks that are 40+ too. We do get screamers now and then, but surprisingly few compared to other gigs I have hosted. The music they sing is all over the place. Show tunes, Elvis, Pop, Alternative, Disney, literally everything. This is the kind of place where having a huge library from a bunch of manufacturers and genres a big plus. I have heard more songs I have never heard before at this gig than any other I have worked. I download more music for this location than all the other's combined.
My Kent, WA gig is completely different. Most are 40+ and very blue collar. Lots of Country, Lots of Classic Rock, lots of 80's and 90's Alternative. Lots of screamers. I honestly have to say that I would have a difficult time enjoying running this show myself. I am very happy that I have a host running it for me and one that suits the crowd/venue better than me. Almost no requests for current music.

I hear ya about the disrespectful and drunk ones. Had some bad ones. Broke a couple cordless mics. Had to bring in the LAW. EWWW. I really hate to have to call the law on people. Most of my older folks always had good time.

My show is at a Restaurant/Bar so for the most part my patrons are in the 30-50 range. We do get some 20 year olds but I like the 30-50 crowd better. Well mannered polite and they spend money. No falling down drunks or breaking of equipment. I have turned down offers from campus venues just too much hassle from drunk college kids..

20's-early 40's on avg. Lots of rock, and newer country. Oldies are virtually unheard of and the 'standard' requested karaoke songs that are typically heard generally don't apply.

Being in South Florida, most of my audiences are 50 and up but I do have two weekly gigs that have 20 to 30 year olds (sports bars) that are sometimes more of a hassle than they are worth. Drunk screamers are the "norm" for this place and watching my equipment is priority one! The thing that probably irks me more than anything with this age group is there sense of entitlement. They are the ones that throw my books on the floor or sit them in a pond of beer. there the ones that swing the mics, walk out with my "props", etc. It is pretty much babysitting for 4hrs. I also prefer the 35 to 55 age bracket. They are polite and supportive and usually spend money. They complain the least and usually $appreciative$

If the bar allows that kind of behavior, it's going to happen. I have seen bars with 40-50 yo's acting the same way. Our club doesn't allow that behavior & the 20-30 yo's are pretty respectful for the most part. Have never had to babysit anything.

My crowd's ages range from 21 to 80 for bar gigs.
My favorite age range is the 35+ crowd. No fights Not too many extreme drunks Wide selection of music sung

my main venue is from 18 (coming in with their parents) through 80 my second and third are usually in the 21-35 range. i like the 18-80 crowd the best. it is awesome to go from waylon jennings to tupac then metallica to tammy wynette. people love the not knowing what is coming up next. it's like the jukebox.
