Alright, I know there are already a couple of threads covering the no fly list, but both of them wandered into the same old legal/lawsuit BS that has been talked to death.

My question is WHY this sudden no fly list. We all know that years ago Garth Brooks stopped allowing his songs to be recorded on karaoke, and we all know about the Eagles music. What I'd like to know (if anyone really knows) is why this sudden explosion of artists stopping their works on karaoke. The last list I saw had 127 artists listed.

What happened ? What's the background on this. WHY ?

It kinda goes along with the Waking of the Sleeping Giants posts. Someone made a lot of noise about illegal karaoke going on and the artists probably caught wind of it and thus this happened.

I don't believe that. I think it's just that someone finally put together a list of the artists who don't go for karaoke issue - the list itself is the only thing that's new, with maybe a few exceptions.

The list has always had lots of songwriters on it. It just hasn't been made public in that way before now.

Yeah, but the song list is made up of a lot of popular artists we use in our shows. What changed their minds. So many at one time ? With a few exceptions (Brooks and Eagles), these are all artists we all use at our shows, and have been using for a long time.

8) I think it is just a matter of the pendulum swinging back and forth. At the summit there was talk of a Wild West type of mentality that has prevailed in the commercial karaoke industry, as far as hosts are concerned, for many years. Now there is not just a new marshal in town, but plenty of deputies as well. For those who wanted a more controlled situation in the industry they got what they wanted. The trouble is now we are beginning to see that with control comes the loss of freedom to act and run one's business. It is a very basic rule to get something you have to be willing to give up something. In order to get control of a situation you have to be willing to trade some of your basic freedom. Just a fact of life.
