I made the mistake of purchasing 2 SC Foundation sets (1&2 with Bricks). If I had to do it all over again, I would have just purchased Foundation 2. Aside from the Foundations that I have and the Teen Paks (1-3) that I have, I think I only have 15 other SC disks in my library. I purchased those before the days of downloads. Now, I am completely happy with downloads and probably will not ever buy another disk, unless circumstances change.

As I said in another thread, as long as you make an effort to replace bad versions of songs when you find them, you will be good to go for 99% of the singers.

Most of them are so in to following the words that they can't really comprehend whether or not the songs is exactly like the original. Except usually those songs with killer guitar solos.

I have found a few crappy versions of songs in my collection that I have already replaced. I WISH I could replace SGB's version of Stranglehold!! Unfortunately, NOBODY else has ever done it.

Agree! No one cares vs probably have all the SC tracks they need at this time are two different scenerios. I have some of my customers because I have SC. I still bought through the custom site simply because I could get the songs requested from the singers that no other company had that I needed without trying to find out of print discs or discs for 1 the one song. I still do care about where to get the remaining SC tracks I need because they are songs no one else has.

OK, even if that's the case, SCwon't be expecting any new income from you either, since the onesies that you may buy in the future will probably come from either used (thank you JFJ EasyPro :D ) or new stock already paid for by the vendor.

As I stated, that is true. Unless they get their custom disc site going (not holding breath) then chances are low that i'll be buying anything more new (as in stuff they have that I still do not) from them - used (yes JFJ best thing ever) if the right price and the person that requested it is a good regular.
But again, I was commenting on the nobody cares part. A big part of our crowd (especially musicians) prefers and asks for SC versions if available - that shows me that they care.

IN YOUR AREA. Just because they care in your area, don't assume they care in other areas, because you would be WRONG. I don't get people asking for brand specific versions. That has happened to me ONLY once, and I am pretty sure it was an inspector.

8) The only label that I have ever had requested is DK in nineteen years. If someone were to insist on SC they would be out of luck since it's not in the book and I don't carry it. Their insistence would raise a red flag with me that they probably would be an investigator for SC. CB would be less noticeable since that label is in my books.

I thin I have posted this before .....

In my experience, the people that make brand specific requests are the older singers or those that have been singing karaoke since the early 90's (pretty much one and the same). This is back when brand recognition was easier. There were fewer brands and the distinction between them was much easier to see.

Pioneer did videos.
DK had the pan flute and IMO (horrible contrast on their wipes)
Sound Choice used High Contrast wipes and prominently displayed their Logo
Etc.....

Also, because piracy was not so widespread, there was more content actually being purchased by singers so they were making a conscious purchasing decision. They saw what they were buying and looked at it with some regularity which consciously and subconsciously reinforces branding.

Now, the market is swamped with brands. Vendors have retooled and changed their look. .....and of course piracy has reduced the amount of physical product that singers actually see, touch and feel.

Singers that are 31 and younger are much less likely to know or care about branding. That is.....until you swap brands on them. Then they know there is a difference even if they don't know the names of the brands you changed from and to.

I don't get a lot of brand specific requests downtown (younger crowd). But in Kent, Renton, Redmond (generally older singers) I do see it, though it is still pretty light. Go north to Lynnwood, Bothell, Everett and you will see a lot of brand specific singers. This coincides with older crowds, AND 1 of 2 remaining brick and mortar karaoke stores left in western Washington.

But you have also stated many times over that you are a small area. Mostly country music and not the greatest singers. Better singers do gravitate toward more quality backing tracks. I've seen it at shows even in other states, and funny all of the kj's have stated similar to what i've stated and they run SC tracks primarily over other brands.

I have very good singers at this current show. One of them is in a band, and SHE doesn't care for Sound Choice. She's not a country singer. Do not assume anything, Lonnie. Makes you look bad.

Yep I did this by mistake one night, put in a All Hits version of a song when I was supposed to pick the SC, I didn't realize it until it started playing. The singer asked me after the first verse to have the other version.
I do try to educate people on brands, quality, constiancy, etc. You'd be surprised how many start asking for better versions after they get a taste of better versions. Someone came to my show and asked for Dirty Deeds - Joan Jett. She'd never heard the SC version, only SGB and fell in love with it stating it sounds like the original - she became a regular after finding more similar song upgrades.

Wasn't assuming, going by your own past statements! But you have also said no one has any SC (or very little), so how could she guage her opinion either way?

i have to disagree here, only the crappy singers who need all kinds of help request a specific version, at leat in a major metro area like Phoenix and Chicago from my experience. the great singers can make Idol Makers sound good.

Hmm.. "GREAT" singers can do as you say. I agree with Lonman on "Better" singers. The worst are not so talented experienced singers.

I stand by my assessment. I've watched it - especially musicians - prefer the better tracks. Most of the reasoning (and I agree) if the music sucks to begin with - why bother.

Why would anyone choose an interior product over a superior product, if both are offered at the same price? I would say very few people would. So why would one take Backstage or Standing Ovation over Chartbuster, SC, or Pop Hits?

I agree with this logic. But, for that logic to be applied, one would have to know or feel that one product was/is inferior to the other.

This question makes no sense based on your previous comment, unless you are saying that Backstage and Standing Ovation cost the same (per disc) that ChartBuster, Pop Hits, and SC do. I chose to buy Backstage's Eagles disc over SC's when they first came out. Backstage was retailing for $15, and SC was retailing for $30 at that time (1996). They definitely were not offered at the same price, so your 2 questions (above) are mutually exclusive of each other.

Up here Backstage, Standing Ovation, All Hits, etc were all about $5 difference from SC , Music Maestro & DK. Chartbuster and Pop Hits wasn't even on the scene yet. $25-30 for ANY of these brands. It wasn't until a couple years later the inferiors started to drop significantly in price.

Cue, I meant at a show. If different mans were offered, wouldn't you take the best even if you could sing with any of them?

If they were offered at the same price (as you originally stated), then the answer to your question is yes. But, that is still subjective upon one knowing or feeling which brand is superior to the other. There are people on this Forum who swear by the quality of SGB, yet many of us here disagree with that.

YIKES, who swears by SGB? I mean they do have a few gems among a bunch of turds.
