karaoke. Nowdays, half the dart players are also singers, and the other half will still request songs from their singing friends.

In my best days, the bar had six boards all in one area. The area was always standing room only. The dropped down to two boards on the other side of the room and the dart people vanished. Same same.. Dart people hated at first, then got into it one way or another..

Ours have the bar divided. 7 or 8 boards on 1 side, karaoke on the other. No interference from either to the other.

We were close. Darts and karaoke do great together once everyone gets used to it. better than pool IMO.

You know, out of the five bars in this town, only one of them has a dartboard. Darts is that big a thing elsewhere? I had no idea.

I learn something new every day.

Darts are HUGE in Washington anyway. ADOI and Medalist conferences, in bar leagues goes to state level, even national events. Our club just got a new interactive board that people can play others in other states that have that board.

That's pretty nifty, indeed.

I was just excited that one of the bars in this town has two pinball machines. I missed pinball machines.

The only printed karaoke magazine for the NW is actually 1/2 karaoke and 1/2 darts. It really is a big deal in WA.

We were once booked to do a show at a bar that specialized in pool leagues. They actually ran an ad looking for karaoke and I have no idea why. They had a very scarey hostess before us and when the pool players saw there was karaoe again they were screaming curses at us and stomping out. They asked the bar how could they do that to them. There was one team on the league that were singers and they assured everyone we weren't what they thought. But we only had singers when that team circulated through every few weeks. The rest of the teams were more traditional to the point of not wanting even the juke box playing--they wanted total silence for concentration. Needless to say we didn't last there long.

we have poker two nights a week, they thought they were getting to be on TV because they were that damn good  .
the diehards leave the bar before their cards even hit the table on their last hand (weather karaoke is going or not).
the rest, either are singers or tolerate it. kinda neat to have them singing while they are at the tables playing 8)
had a few complain about volume and karaoke interfering with poker, but the bartenders just tell them to sit and spin, i have been there since G.O. and poker came into my world

I thought about capping the rotation at a certain number (like 20 or 25) before too, however; it was just a thought. I never actually did it.

Is there anyone here who does that or has done it or is thinking about doing it?

8) Actually I had one venue try and set their own policy as far as rotation was concerned. They wanted me to not exactly cap but limit the first round to 20 singers. New singers coming in would be placed on a second list. Everyone on the first rotation sang their first song, then there was a second round before the people on the second list were placed on the end of the second rotation. So the first 20 got to sing two songs before any of the late comers were able to sing their first song. It didn't work that well, the idea was to reward the early birds and prevent bar hoppers from an easy path to beating the system. Instead the early birds sang their two songs and left and needless to say the late comers didn't stay either. After two weeks they turned the rotation decision back to the host where I think it ultimately belongs.

I tried something very close this and I lost a lot of singers the next few weeks and some NEVER returned.

I can hear one guy that works at my company now,,, "That ain't gonna work!" I personally like to try new things, not with my rotation though.

We have some bars with dart boards, but not that many. None of my karaoke bars have dart boards.

Interesting point: I've heard from 3 bar owners - Pool tables do not generate the money they used to. People used to pass the time playing pool, but now, the only people that usually play are the serious players. The average folks that are just looking to kill some time do so by playing Keno.

Pool is still popular around here. Bars will actually lose patrons if a table is not available and many have at least two tables. But I'm not sure about the percentage of income that is generated. I see bars offering free pool during certain hours.

it can end up being overkill as well.
in our little 85 cap bar there are 4 dart boards (2 inside 2 out) 2 pool tables, that dumb (@$%&#!) punching game (dragon punch), they will run 4 poker tables and have me in there doing karaoke. talk about confusion.
