Hi everyone,
I'm looking for some info on Chartbuster who I understand has gone bye bye. I purchased a number of songs through their website (which I believe has been taken over by Karaoke Cloud?) and need to download them again. Any leads on where and how? When I tried to do it through Karaoke Cloud, it said I had no purchases. It wasn't a huge amount of songs but more than I care to pay to buy again. Any help is appreciated! Toni

Unfortunately, The Karaoke Cloud is no way affiliated with Chartbuster other than they acquired the CB library and rebranded them to Karaoke Cloud. Sorry to say, any downloads you made through Chartbuster are done gone - although I am not sure they had a open download policy to begin with where you could re-download once originally downloaded. If you want the songs again, you will have to repurchase elsewhere or through the Cloud if you want the same CB quality.

And that's the other danger of downloading.

And that’s exactly why you transfer your downloads to cd. Others will say this is not kosher, legalities, etc. I don’t care, you have to protect your investment. Tricera & if I’m not mistaken kv keep records of your downloads & can be re-downloaded anytime - until of course if by chance they fold or change their policy then you SOL! (hence, the back-up).

I back up my downloads all over the place.

If I found myself in that same situation; I'd probably go to my local karaoke computerized KJ and explain that Chartbuster screwed me over and could he possibly help me rectify the situation by giving me copies of the songs that I could prove to him that I had legally purchased.
If that didn't work; I'd find another way to get them for nothing. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

From what I have learned via email from Digitrax, this statement is not accurate. Digitrax has licensed the music tracks (but technically not the lyrics sync, although that could probably be argued since their "trade dress" has been testified in this forum to be the same as Chartbuster and the not-other-than-Virtual DJ-seen MegaHits) from SOMEONE (a guess might be the owner is World Wide Digital, since they are the ones suing for copyright, and given that Piracy Recovery owns the CB trademark, which is what they sued for). I just couldn't help but be curious about what the result of all of the changeover was...

Chartbuster doesn't exist anymore as a company, so anything bought from them as a download is no longer available to that purchaser through KC or any other entity. Digitrax is not going to give tracks to someone that bought it while CB was a company.

Tell me why people think that IP is different from any other product you purchase? Just because it is easily copied for almost nothing? So are you telling me if I owned a product and the company that made it went under, are you trying to say that one I was ripped off and two that it's okay to go to someone who has some for sale, show then a receipt and they should give you the product? And if not you'll find another way to get it for nothing and would that include stealing it?

Not at all different from buying a disc, losing it, taking the receipt to a fellow KJ and asking them to burn you a copy. Bookmark this post as well, folks! -Chris

if you sell me something and go out of business before you deliver what I paid for....Damn right I will not end up on the short side of the stick. Steal a dollar from me and I wil steal 10 from you. Is the now defunct Chartbuster going to take me to court for recovery of something that they cheated me out of in the first place?

Where does it say it wasn't delivered? It was delivered and she lost them somehow. So exactly how is it CB's fault, even if they were still in business. I buy something and lose it, how is it the fault of the seller? To me downloads are no different. As for paying for something in advance, well that's ALWAYS a risk.

It wasn't anyones fault but the person that got the downloads to begin with. It was never stated that they didn't get the original downloads, only they lost what they had. Doesn't give you the right to steal it just because you had it at one time.

I've purchased many songs from I-tunes and karaoke version with the knowledge that I would have perpetual access to those songs regardless of how many times I needed to download them. Once I've paid for them, I feel that I have the rights to those songs.FOREVER! If i-tunes and karaoke version go out of business, I would find a way to get those songs again if I needed to; which I won't, but if I did, I'd get them somehow. If I got them from a KJ who had them; who would know and who would care and who would be around to take me to court over it if those 2 businesses are out of business?
People who bought downloads from Chartbuster probably feel the same way about what they purchased.

Other than "your feeling", where does it say forever? You should complain to Ford or whoever your automobile seller and/or manufacturer and tell them they have to keep you in a car forever after you bought your first one. I wonder how that would go?

So you advocate piracy and you express an aggressively vengeful, vindictive attitude. Maybe I should re-think my open invite to sing at my show. Read the OP, he paid, downloaded, lost, needs to download again. Chartbuster didn't do that to him. Steal my lawnmower and I get the police involved. -Chris

Buy a disc, lose it but still have a backup; rebuy. Buy a download, lose it and can't re-download; rebuy.
