When I buy a car, I have an insurance policy that replaces my car if it is stolen. When I buy a song on the internet, that insurance is part of the purchasing price of the music. Like I've already said before. When I buy a song from Karaoke Version to make a home made karaoke track for my personal use, they advertise that I have access to that song and that I can download it again and again as many times as I need to. They do not charge an EXTRA fee for that feature. It is basically a lifetime insurance policy included in the price of the backing track.

There are insurance companies that will replace your stolen car with the same model car that is one year newer than the car that was stolen. Am I a pirate if my car is stolen and I get a brand new one to replace it? I don't think so.

They don't need to subscribe to anything (and home users only pay 9.99 per month anyway). They can purchase the downloads through KC if they need.

And if KV went under (or started blocking US IP even), that offer is no longer valid. If your insurance comapny went under the day before you suddenly needed them, then you again are SOL!

If the download company's policy is they will replace as often as necessary is fine but what happens if they go out of business? Is it then okay to steal the downloads from somewhere else?

Like I said why do people think downloads are theirs forever? Nothing is forever.

Dear Sirs/Madams: Piracy discussion at its best! LOL Hmmm, with all this bickering back & forth I wonder what the op is thinking right now. Her first post to quote: “Hi all! I am a singer from NY always looking for the next show and the next new song! Great to find this forum to have other enthusiasts to talk to!Toni.”
Only her second post I would assume she didn’t expect the high level of ‘mild hostile’ interactions generated by her search to find an answer. 2day post, 2pages of differing opinions, me thinks she pretty much decided what would be her best recourse to find the solution. (not pointing fingers, I got one ‘mild’ post too). Just saying…..Peace, all!

I do NOT completely rely on Karaoke Version or i-tunes staying in business forever. In that regard, I am my own Insurance provider. I have all of my karaoke tracks and mp3s backed up on multiple hard drives. Unless my house catches on fire; I think I'm covered. I even have one of my hard drives at my son's house, as well, as an extra precaution.

Don't forget to bookmark this one too. I have made numerous digital copies of my karaoke discs. I'd also like to add that i am not a KJ and these tracks are for my own personal use. I'd also like to add that I probably break the speed limit at some point every time I get in my car. I think you should get the C.I.A. to look into that as well.

Chris, If my hard drive crashes in my computer and I have to replace it; Does Microsoft expect me to buy the operating system all over again? I'm pretty sure that I'm allowed to use my restore discs as many times as necessary for as long as I own that computer. Some companies make it clear that when you buy their product, you are allowed to use it forever; even if it breaks down or gets a virus and needs to be re-installed. I feel that karaoke Version and i-tunes sell their products with that concept in mind.

So if Microsoft goes under, then you wouldn't be able to use the product anymore since you have to call them or login in to reset the license for that machine.

Most likely not (I didn't think CB would close their doors either) but that isn't the point, the possibility is always there and to say I always can reload my Microsoft products forever is not an accurate statement. IF they ever closed, every piece of MS software that required online or phone in activiation are screwed and would have to repurchase new software to replace those products.

But once again, I don't rely on Microsoft only. I have the C Drive for this PC cloned on 4 different old hard drives that are sitting in a drawer. I upgraded every laptop hard drive that I have and all of the original hard drives are also put away.

If Microsoft goes under, we're all in trouble. In the mean time, I back up EVERYTHING REDUNDANTLY.

Well, we could all switch to Open Office instead of MS Office. Open office is FREE!!

That is most likely what would need to happen. Not as good as the real Office suite, but the point being, Office would need to be replaced once lost - just like a download. If it gets lost or destroyed and you have no back up, you don't just get to steal it elasewhere to get it back because you once had it.

And computers as we know them today could become like eight tracks and Beta max in a few years.

My obsolete computers can still play any karaoke track that I have and will always have that capabilty until a repair cost makes it cost prohibitive to keep it up and running. You don't need the newest, fastest PC version to play musical tracks or karaoke tracks or to even comment on on-line karaoke web sites. I had a old 600MZ compaq presario mothballed down in the basement that still worked great but Hurricane Snady took care of it and it had to be tossed. I buy new stuff all of the time but I never throw anything away if it still works.

Right but if something happened to that computer where you needed to reactivate a license a MS product (again hypothetical closure of MS), even backups wouldn't work.

And if my Aunt had balls; she'd be my Uncle.

There are much smarter people out there when it comes to the ins and outs of Computers and I'm sure that someone would figure out a way to activate windows if Microsoft went the way of the dinosaur.....just like someone figured out how to rip Sound Choice discs that were produced with Media Cloq copy protection.

It will be absolutely pointless to try to have a meaningful debate with PirateFan4Life. He has already moved this discussion away from his willful support of piracy to how best to leverage obsolete hardware. You will not be able to pin him down so save your darts. Just know and feel comfortable that you are right and he is wrong.

You know, If I took someone else's post and "doctored" the posters name and basically "INSULTED" the other poster by insinuation: I'd get put back into Karaoke Forum purgatory. I guess I'm fair game to insult without fear of banishment to Bogey Land.

According to the Karaoke Summit, 45,000 out of 50,000 KJs in the country are Pirates. Seems like most people are Pirate Fans since they are all going to those 45,000 KJ's shows.

Yo Ho Ho and a bottle of Rum!
