selectkaraoke.com is a good place to start. You can purchase credit packs - 200 for $280, these avgs out to $1.40 per track.
allstarcustom.com is another place. You can purchase prepaid cards and depending on the card, can get you as low as $.45 cents per track.

I don't know how they can make any money at that price, but ....

if you want bulk packs, Tricerasoft offers Mr Entertainer packs in 500, 1500 or 2500 song packs and SBI packs 500, 2000, 5000, 10,000, and 20,000 song packs. the 10,000 pack is only $5,500 so not a bad price.

Still avgs to about the $.44-45 per track I mentioned - bulk sales is how they can keep the prices lower - we used to do the same type of offers when I owned a tanning salon - the more bought, the cheaper the price per sesssion.

Check out MyKJMediaPro [url]http://www.mykjmedia.com/url]. A couple hundred dollars and you're up in running with over 11,000 songs, about half that in unique songs. The song credits cost more, $2.49 to $1.49 each, but considering that you only pay for the song you actually unlock and 80% of the songs will never be sung (unlocked) it makes your overall cost per song just pennies.

If I were on the market for a new library, I would probably give the Sound Choice Gem series a hard look. It's like 5k for the whole 6k set. But, it seems like one of those volumes or whatever they're called are loaded up with a bunch of garbage (standards, etc). If that is indeed the case, you might just skip that one and save the money.

Also, I highly recommend you look to eBay for 2 collections on Super-cdg: 1) DK Millennium (1800+ songs $100) and Chartbuster Essentials (only 1-6 are available on SCDG - (2700 songs $100).

I know you said downloads, but I'll be the one who advises otherwise.

I am with Troy on this.

You may get fewer overall tracks with the Sound Choice GEM, but the quality and selection will be top notch. I do believe downloading is the future, but the format of the GEM is such that they are drag, drop, rename to your format and you are good to go. Also, at 320kbps, you won't find a higher fidelity rip anywhere unless you do it yourself.

Or you could star like Chris was saying. Start with NOT ONE TRACK. Starting from your first show, download requests as they come in. You will have a smaller collection than the guy up the road, BUT it will all be usable material, instead of filling your system with unusable crap. So in the beginning you by like 50 credits. Then little by little, week after week you will have to buy less and less at once. I average 10 credits a week, now, and some of that is still songs I like to sing, besides requests.

Sunfly - 128 kb/s
SBI - 128 kb/s - 320 KB/s (depending on the song)
Karaoke Version 160 KB/s
Digitrax Entertainment 320 KB/s
Zoom 192 KB/s
All Star 192 KB/s

I am trying to secure another gig this week that will be 3 nights a week. I intend to use iCroons.com as a "songbook" and download anything I don't already have discs for. I am breaking out all of my surplus inventory this week just for this purpose.

In that case, I'd just add Tricerasoft's entire library to my book, remove dupes and wait for someone to request one of those missing songs (assuming you have internet). Just email them for the list. They sent it to me with a developers API.

Karaoke-Version have a loyalty scheme where you are rewarded with free track coupons when you reach the required number of points. The easiest way is to buy 10 tracks at once, then you instantly get 20 points = coupon.

I agree the "Tricerasoft Model" is a great way to start, until one night without internet convinced me I needed to find a better way...

For roughly $50/mo you can get a mobile hotspot and always have a connection. I have one venue where the wifi is absolutely horrible and we use only our own hotspot for Internet access.

For about the same, many smartphone can be used as a hot spot. I am considering providing a $25/mo kicker to my hosts that use their phones as a hot spot so they can download on the fly. The hosts get a subsidized internet connection that they control and get to use on their own time and I don't have to worry about managing hardware with minimal accounting.

I do believe that it is possible to use your phone browser to download a zip file and then transfer it to your host computer. I haven't used one yet, but in the App Store, they are called download managers.

Yea, I've done the phone / hotspot thing, but the question was "best bang for the buck?" Over the last six months with KJMediaPro, I've only spent $103.48 in credits (unlocking songs) and new hits are added regularly. No on-site internet required and it works with all the other suggestions. If you have CompuHost it's a no brainer, otherwise it's a great reason to pony up (which is what I did with the original MediaPro HD) and I'm glad I did, they both have made me a lot of money :D

I bought the CB Essentials 1-6, and I purchased the monthly releases for several years. There's not much from CB that I don't already have (popular stuff). I'm sure that most of the CB content that I don't have is a lot of filler garbage, or something I already have on SC or THM. For me, the MediaPro is probably not a good deal, as I am content with downloads. As I've said before, I buy 3-5 new songs per month if I am confident someone will sing it. All other songs are purchased only when a request is made. So, my monthly expenses for new music is rather low, too.

I wouldn't run a show that was solely internet based (download only on request). Internet connections are always the most reliable things - even personal hotspots and what not glitch and go down on occasion - I know my Clearwire sure did where I couldn't get a connection for a good hour. I would want some kind of base core library in posession.

I thought the same, but since the KJMediaPro HD really elevated my shows, I already had CompuHost and there is really no cost until you unlock a song, I figured, why not. The biggest problem is the files are from several different manufactures so the names were all over the place. But once that was fixed, I could run some stats. Without the KJMediaPro I have 19,159 unique songs, including the Gems series. The KJMediaPro adds 3,855 unique songs for a total of 23,014, with 40 songs added each month. At the time I was spending over $35 a month for songs, $29.88 for two Karaoke Cloud volumes and $7.65 for one ASK disc (.45*17, thanks to Wal-Mart.) As for the old KJMediaPro HD, with most of the Chartbuster Library, there are still 3,570 unique locked songs on there. Every once in a while I unlock one with the backup computer, but that ain’t gonna last much longer.
