Do you guys edit out the 'bad words' by changing or eliminating them like Chartbuster was doing on the last couple years? This would help sales IMO for those who don't want/need the bad words in songs. There were several CB songs I was able to use that they tastefully edited out the naughties.
All Star is another that does this & right now will get all those songs from them.

Easy enough to change them yourself with the latest version of Karaoke CD+G Creator.

I do understand there are some venues out there that don't allow PA. I personally feel it is disrespectful to the artist to change or removes the lyrics that they have written..i know some will disagree with me on this one ..which they have in the past.. but I feel you need to present each song word for word regardless...unless....permission to do so from the songwriter themselves is given.

Some artists do put out two versions of their songs--aka the "Radio Edit."

I realize this, would rather buy them that way and not have to deal with it.

All of the songs produced by DTE have the bad words replaced with stars. Most of the other manus have produced the songs as is.

Hope this helps!

Too bad. All Star actually replaces or eliminates the word entirely. Chartbuster used to do this as well in the last couple years. Guess i'll stick with All Star for anything with language content - if you guys go back to the other way, please keep us informed. Stars don't deter people from still singing the bad words, but an actual replaced word actually does.
Thanks

I have to disagree with you,,,the song SHE HATES ME always get the "F" word added to it and its not even in the song....so a replacement doesn't do it ..if the singer like the bad words anyway..
On a Personal Note..I have had a KJ tell me Not to sing any bad words that come up on the screen..at Applebees..so you could always try that or put a writing warning inform singers NOT to sing those words or they wont sing the rest of the night

It is a minority type problem but if one does kid shows then a replacement word is better. There are so many songs that kids would love to do but I have to leave them out due to just ONE word. I've tried telling them not to sing it and the older ones get it but the tiny nervous ones that are glued to the screen just sing it right out.....Dynamite comes to mind as one. But if stars are used instead then **** is better than f**k because the mind tends to fill in what the eye doesn't see.

Although I feel strange being a censor I prefer having "radio edits" with substitute words for my songs so that I can use them in a wider variety of situations. When I'm at a bar that doesn't care about language, the singers have no problem filling in the words of their choice.

She hate me is not
The example I was going for. That isnt even listed. Im talking the occasional words not one that is a candidate for the fbomb through the entire song. But yes, using Creep by Radiohead, as an example, my versions say very special, not f***ing special, the singers have never tried singing the "proper" lyrics but do sing them as they are highlighted on screen. I think it silly for any kj to demand those words be spelled out or not be changed, as you made it perfectly clear that your singers will sing it proper regardless. So it shouldnt be an issue for you!

Creep is one I was thinking of also. I have the "special" version which means I can use it at more venues. But at the one where language isn't an issue, the singers do use the f word no matter what appears on the screen.

Its NOT an issue for me. I don't tell people what they can and can not sing. I say put the words on the screen as the songwriter wrote them..then tell the singers those songs with the cussing cannot be done ..then that way those of us who want the PA can have them...fair for everyone.
I do know that selectkaraoke some times put out a clean and explicit version so you can have you choice so there you go
Gretchen...please continue putting out the song as the songwriters wrote them..they deserve that respect..Freedom of speech

The problem comes when you broadcast over several tvs so the audience can see them--even if the singer leaves them out they are there. That limits where you can use those songs. If the artist has put out their own edited version to get more airplay then you aren't really interfering with their words. You are just using their own alternative version.

And I've bought the "clean" SBI and even Sunfly versions and they don't leave much to the imagination--I had a little girl sound out the f**k in dynamite one day. Yet kids LOVE that song and they don't get to sing it because of one word. Clean versions let more people sing the song while still allowing for those who want to sub the PA version words in venues that allow it. Those people usually know how it really goes.

Well obviously it IS an issue for you as you demand the words be correct and not edited. If it wasn't an issue, you wouldn't have as much of an adversion to it.

EXACTLY my point. Having the word or even ***** will still entice the people to sing it. It the word is altered to a more family friendly word (or eliminated all together) it would allow for a greater audience, but would not hurt ONE THING with those that are allowed to and will sing it correctly anyway!

I think it would only help sales to have both a clean version and and explicit version. I say that because there are songs that I'd like to have both of. For instance - Cee Lo Green - F/Forget You. Since most of the shows I do are 21+, I usually go right for the explicit version.

Just picked up a 3 night a week gig that will start Nov 1st. Had the conversation with the owner about language. He said he would rather it not be used, but would not have much to say about it unless he received complaints.

During negotiations it was mentioned that they used to do 7 nights a week and would like to get back to 7 nights a week. I know this to be true because my wife and I scouted them and they have "Karaoke 7 Nights a Week" printed in their restaurant menus and I recall seeing their karaoke ads in the local karaoke magazine.

Considering that and the compensation model for this venue, I am going to proactively pull certain songs from this particular library to ensure we just don't ever have a problem. It wasn't requested by the venue. I just feel it is appropriate for this venue.

Even a blind Squirrel finds a nut every now and again. The songs with bad language have way more negative potential to get a KJ fired than they do to get a KJ an extra night...unless the bar wants to promote a given night as adult karaoke night. That being said; I think more people would avoid an adult karaoke night than flock to it.
