Keep in mind that I voted too, but I answered tha poll as having 75 or less (when I erroneously stated in another topic thread that I only had 55 discs). In actuality, I discovered that I have 164 discs (so my answer in this Poll should be invalid). But, your statement still rings true (even without my vote).

Joe, That is an interesting observation. With that few you could put them in a picture frame and hang them on the wall, beside your rig, for everyone to see. I would like to see what a SC investigator would say about that. I know.... No permission to format shift ..... but clearly no reason to sue either.

Yeah, what's that all about? You listen to the likes of Harrington, Insane, Thunder and a few others, you aren't even a KJ if you don't own a ton of SC. On the Free Forum they call it Crappioke if you aren't beholden to the Sound Choice brand. Obviously, there are plenty KJs out there who do NOT live and die by SC.
There are many new, young KJs out there that will never use SC because they aren't producing anymore. I have 38 SC discs. So far my Red Hot Chili Peppers disc and my Frank Sinatra disc are the only ones that get regular use.

How many KJ's are active posters here? How many US based KJ's are even on this site?
Way too much stock is being placed in a very small sampling of karaoke hosts. Those that are looking for negatives WILL find negatives in this. You know who you are.

They were useful for speciific artists, ie the Stevie Ray Vaughn hits cdg, but at 26.95 a piece (somettimes 19.95 a piece) were prohibitively expensive to buy in bulk. Could find same other selections for less$ on other brands and for general use sound quuality never got any complaints if it wasnt SC. So in most cases SC is not indesppensiible.

-Chris If people are accurately representing themselves *and* people are still active KJ's *and* the site information is accurate - There are 225 KJ's registered on the Karaoke Scene Forums. As for the relevance or the indispensability of Sound Choice.......I didn't end up with 2000+ Sound Choice discs by buying out 40 KJ's that only had 50 discs or less. I bought 250+ Star Series from one KJ and the only other discs he had were a dozen or so Karoakanta discs. I have made three 1000+ disc purchases and each of those had 300+ Sound Choice discs in them. My guess is those that find Sound Choice indispensable are the hosts that started 20 years ago. The KJ's that started in the last 10 years still find Sound Choice a desirable product, but they downloaded it or bought a drive and so they don't have discs at all. Keep in mind that we are rapidly approaching the 5 year mark since Sound Choice has even released a disc. Also, think back over the last 5 years to how many NEW discs you have purchased from ANY brand. I imagine you are purchasing less on an annual basis now, than you were 10-15 years ago if you have been around that long (a guess on my part but I think a good one). If they are so irrelevant, why do so many anti-Sound Choice people keep them in the forefront of conversation? -Chris

$29.99 a pop (+tax) for sc spotlights during their heyday, old kj vets like myself bought hundreds of those. Quality always comes at a price, didn’t mind paying top $$ for it. with the exception of some songs, still prefer sc than any other. just saying...... Peace, all!

Chris,
I probably have around 80 Sound Choice discs including 9 customs that I gladly paid $4.00 per song when I first started filling in gaps within my library, and started filling customer requests by buying customs... I held off purchasing PHM and THM because I wanted to see if Sound Choice would offer the same songs a month or two later, as I thought their sound quality, and sweeps, and authenticity of lyrics were superior in that era of my Karaoke career, all the while, stalling my customer requests, so I wouldn't have to pay a double pop by not waiting for Sound Choice Quality... That was 12 years ago... since then, I have filled in quantity selections with Chartbuster, Sunfly, DK, and an assortment of others...
Don't think the Elder Statesmen Of KJ's here on the Forum would argue that Music was slow and hard to come by because of the expense, and the chance of purchasing poor quality songs by inferior manufacturer's and then duplication of the same selections was a big waste... thus we bought carefully, and slowly, and the Venue's were many, they paid well, and there was very little competition ( at least here ) and I dictated what Karaoke Shows would be like, and the hours that a show would last...
Then came computer Karaoke, and Pirated Material was an easy fix to build a library, without the major expense of buying from the box store, and all of a sudden the manufacturer's started dropping like flies, and then I started hearing that one of them was suing KJ's for shifting files to computers... Etc., Etc., Etc.
Here we are waiting to see the new direction that Karaoke will take in the future... Change is in the air... and I am a very interested bystander, waiting to take the next step into the unknown...

Except (at least around here) when Music Maestro, Sunfly and a couple others came out they were also in the $25-30 per disc catagory. DK 1-99 were going for $30-35 each. Hell for that matter I have receipts for Backstage & Standing Ovation discs that were $20-25 each. This was all around 94-97. It always makes me laugh when kj's here complain about the past pricing of SC discs only!

...Added to the poll. Been logging on the last couple of weeks but haven't had time to post. Might be adding to the SC Collection. Just found a really good deal!

It always makes me laugh when kj's here complain about the past pricing of SC discs only! So true. I remember when both the SC and Back Stage Eagles disc came out (around '95 or '96), and SC was $30, and Back Stage was $20. With an imaginary scale, I weighed both discs in my hands, and said, "BS $20, SC $30," and kept going back and forth on that scale until I decided that with a difference of only 3 song tracks on both discs, the cheaper disc won the weigh-in war. And, at that time, I had just started buying my own discs, so I didn't know the difference from one Manufacturer to the next. BTW... LUV your new Data video.
