Hi there!

Many years ago I purchased some Pocket Songs cassettes for my karaoke singing. Over time, and after I got a CD player and a puter, I then tried to look for their CD counterparts. I then found out that some of their cassette titles were discontinued. Does anyone know what became of these discontinued titles, and if by chance they were acquired by someone? I would love to purchase digital, CD, or CD+G versions of these titles.
Thanx in advance!

If you were to share some of the titles, help may be easier to gain.

OK... :) I'm going by memory in some cases...
for instance they released some Christian karaoke tapes, including songs of Carman, songs of Bruce Carroll, songs of Petra, and songs of Stryper. They also had an Amy Grant tape which has several now out of print (?) tracks on it...I remember some of the titles on it were Ask Me, You're Not Alone, Helping Hand, and Children Of The World.
I remember they had (I think) Don Henley which had a great rendition of "End Of The Innocence" that is better than what I've found so far, and that I'd love to acquire again. Also one of hits of Basia which also had some rarities. I don't know the stock #s, but I think Basia was PS 432 or something. This was before their catalog exploded with the thousands of titles they have now.

I am always checking eBay, amazon, and used music sites for these tapes. The Basia one has been spotted, but none of the others.

I also know Chartbuster had some of these titles but not all.

Most everything that never made it to CD was converted from the original DATs to digital files (after lots of comparing what was missing). They're on their download site as single tracks.

If something is not there, it's due to missing the song title during the comparison or the DAT was defective. This was done 3 years ago by me as a side project for MMO.

Thank you Jeff! :) There are still a couple of songs missing I remember getting from Pocket Songs (ex. Children Of The World by Amy Grant), but at least I can obtain digital versions of most! :)

Here is the list of songs that came off of old DATs and converted to digital audio files for download.pocketsongs.com website. Use the Code Number included next to each title to easily find them.

You can download the spreadsheet I made until Dec 22nd from this link:
(this forum won't let me attach it here)

Or get a cassette player & rip the songs that you cannot get to a digital file.

Lon, I thought of that- and the little cassette converters can be had for around $25- but I get the impression that since the OP has found CDs and PCs, the interest on upgrading may be focused on the lyrics display.

Don't know if this will help, but the OP might find the tracks required- and several others- on Daywind Karaoke discs, more specifically their Christian series.

I dunno, the way I got it was they had cassettes & eventually bought cds/cdgs to replace those. Meaning if they still HAD those cassettes, they could most certainly rip those to a digital file, and if they wanted to go a step further but the software to create the graphics themselves off of those ripped files for their personal use.

Hey again,

Actually the main reason I wanted the digital versions is because sometimes the quality is better than a tape transfer, and also I haven't always been able to locate my original tapes. I have many cassettes and really need to get a system organized, since most of my songs are single song accompaniment tapes. I have a dual cassette deck which I've used to transfer my tapes to. The inexpensive tape players don't transfer as well as the more expensive ones, the sound isn't always the greatest.

I use karaoke songs mostly for church use, and also for special events (anniversary, funeral, etc.) I have both Christian karaoke and Christian accompaniment tracks. A lot of churches don't use tapes anymore, so that's another reason I needed to get digital or CD versions. :)

Going from tape to tape will degrade the sound, going from tape to digital will sound as good as the cassette player playing it without any degradation between the two (if you go to a wav file). That being said you would need a good interface to hook up - like the Lexicon Alpha, it's cheap and very good quality for that kind of thing, i've used it myself on alot of my old cassettes I had that weren't available on cd.

Interesting....I've just been hooking up a cable from the tape deck into the line in on the PC and then transferring via Audacity. I have a Sony cassette deck which has really been a huge help. I've had it for at least 12 years and it's still held up. I've also done "high-speed" transfers where you set the tape deck to high speed dubbing and transfer music that way. It's especially useful when working with sluggish tapes. I still believe that if you can obtain digital versions of a song that's a better choice. JMO

You can certainly use the line in on the stock sound card, but it won't sound as good.
But I agree if you can find it in a CD, then that is a gimme, i'm talking songs that aren't readily available on CD or digital file, but only on cassette.
