I guess I stand alone on this one. I used to use stands when my mics were all wired ( my personal mic still is), and found them to be a PITA in regard to tangled wires- especially the stands with legs rather than round weighted bases- I had both.

When I went to wireless, I found too many folks would try to put them into the stands incorrectly and drop them- quite often.

Now I just collect the mics, or they lay them on the work surface. No more stands at all, and happy about it. Patrons never mention it one way or the other.

Personally, with wireless mics allowing more freedom of movement, I think stands are kind of passe', except as a prop.

you are not alone Joe, except for the couple para singers i have i do not use them either. easier to keep things rolling without them in my case of not using stages.

i personally, as a singer, never use the mic stands. just take it out and put it back when i am done. but it is better than not knowing where to put the mic

Even with the recent addition of wireless mics, the mic stands still get used often - even with the wireless. People like singing on the stage, but that is something that is rare in a lot of karaoke 'nights' that do not have any stage per se to sing on.

In my area, at least half have the $100 TV stand with dual mic holders. The other half just set the mic on their DJ case or table they're using to set their equipment. And forget about sanitizing or more than two mics.
Like I said, deplorable and completely on the cheap since bars have a normal payout of $50-$75 for 4 hours.

i think you can forget about sanitizing mics on mic stands, the ones getting them returned to the DJ have a much better chance of getting sanitized.

Exactly! My tv stand used to have mic holders left & right. So easy to return the mic back to the ring holders but yet they missed most of time & drop my beta58s. ‘had replaced a dented grille, cartridge at one time, sent out for repair when the end bottom tip antenna hit the hard floor. Solution: remove the mic holders, replaced with an improvised mic tray. Piece of plywood, black dj carpet & 3m77 spray glue. Easy does it! Problem solved!
Not shown - the other handheld beta58 (from dual Shure U124D) & 2 mic stands, shure super55 & lampifier vocal 111 (mic taped & non-detachable), hence the option of handheld, or with mic stand (And I do sanitize my mics).

Re: follow up - my tv ad (not to hijack op’s thread) I don’t play dj dance music in my shows. Always, karaoke all the way. They can dance to karaoke tunes. The only exception is on new year’s eve. It’s karaoke all night except play dance tunes from 11:40pm to 12:10am so as to maintain the momentum & excitement already building up to midnight. Karaoke continue thereafter.

I do just about the exact same thing on New Years. And this is about the only time I ever play a long set of dance music.

Hey, when did you come to my show?

Seriously though, my most successful karaoke show which I have had for 3 1/2 years so far... I do not use a singer's monitor. I do exactly what you described. The lyrics are displayed on a bigscreen TV that sits right above my head. Never had a single complaint and this show is always packed full of people. They love to be able to walk around the bar while they are singing and you can see the TV from anywhere in the bar.

Do I run all my karaoke shows that way? No, but for that place, it works the best.

One thing I have learned in life is to be flexible enough to adapt to different situations accordingly. Many times, one size doesn't fit all.

I also have one of those tv stands with the mic holders on each side. You would think that sliding a mic into a holder would be child's play, right? Nope. What a pain that turned out to be the first year I used it. People constantly dropping my mics trying to put them in those holders or just couldn't figure it out at all.

So the 2nd year I got smart and removed the holders.

The way it works at my shows is very simple. When I call your name, you come up to me and I hand you a mic. When you are done singing, you hand the mic back to me. The cool thing I like about doing it this way is it gives the singer a reason to come interact with me one last time and I get to personally thank them or tell them they did a good job before they go back to their seat.

I learned this when I went to sing at a karaoke show one night and that's how the kj (a veteran who's been doing karaoke since the 90s) was doing it. As a singer, I liked it. And now that I do it as a host myself, I really like it and I've been doing it that way ever since.

i do that as well for the same reason, plus it gives me a chance to spray and wipe down the mic before giving it to the next singer.

I like a mic stand when I sing, because if I am smoking I can stand back from the mic in instrumental breaks for a puff.
