I say we all back up and wait to see. I can't make a judgement of the proposed group until the details are spelled out. Once the membership opens, I personally will taking a good hard open minded look at what William is proposing. Remember, as with any new group, as the membership evolves so to will the group.

This group might be the beginning of what we have all wanted, a voice for the KJ/host.

I really don't have any high hopes or high expectations for the new NKA. Right now, karaoke is paying all my bills. It's my full time job. I already know what I'm doing in regards to karaoke.

Not sure how a karaoke organization can benefit me or supplement what I already have going on.

Even if it can't benefit me monetarily, I'll still join as long as they don't try to control me. I'll be joining basically for the same reasons I joined this forum. Just to exchange ideas and have an association with other kjs around the globe.

I can give you folks some information. This is William Beasley, he is a certified Sound Choice and Chartbuster (RIP) KJ, and though I don't personally know him, he is a Facebook friend. He was involved with the Karaoke World Championship in NC, but posted about a month ago that he was through with karaoke due to piracy. He is one of the KJs I posted about that was certified by SC and CB but has no shows. Not sure what this is all about but looks like he's changed his mind about being through with karaoke.

Well, did a quickie on the public sites like Zoom and got at least a little info:

He started full-time in the DJ business in 2008 (DJ Billy Base), and is still primarily an Event DJ.

He is based out of North Carolina ( that's just where he is- I'm inferring nothing) where at some point (2011?) the started the Triangle Karaoke Jockey Association.
www.tkja.org
This site also happens to include direct links to report piracy to both SC and PR.

Our colleague Skid Rowe was/is a member.

He was the North Carolina director of the World Karaoke Championships

He also heads/headed the Raleigh/Durham chapter of the American Disc Jockey Association.

I note participation in at least 3 different associations so far, but no real mention of any actual karaoke experience that I can find, whether on listed on SC site or not.

That's all I have so far. What any of it means will have to be seen.

Get off your pipe dreams, folks. This man is not going to save the karaoke industry. He is not going to change it. Nor will he make a dent in it. and besides that... he couldn't even answer Cue's questions!!!!!

What a joke.

Aren't you being a bit harsh on the guy? Other than a lite bio on the fellow you REALLY don't know enough to make a truly informed opinion about the proposed new group. BTW, I have yet to read where he proposed to single handidly save this industry.

Smooth, I can tell you from the information I have to date, yes there will be a membership fee. Do you not pay dues (fees) to any trade association or group. Most groups from AAA to PTA require some sort of fee for membership, just fyi.
I do know the proposed new association will not requiring you to buy any manus product. As for some sort of certifications, I have no information about that.
You need to take a wait and see.

Problems? Other than your distaine for SC, what other industry related problems are you having? Maybe I or other members on this forum can be of assistance to help you. That is one of the usual purposes of associations, to offers up solutions. I may not know every thing about this industry but my successful years in this business I may have gleemed a few thing that helped me make my business better even from those that i have often disagreed with. Open your mind! Even Tiger Woods to this day uses a coach and he is at the top of his sport. What does that tell you?

Hey, wait a darn minute, Alan. I just posted an added fyi. That's all it was - info. I'm actually neutral on this issue. I'm keeping an open mind & see first what he's got to offer.

Brian, Brian, Brian... what are we going to do with you? I am not judging the man, rather making a comment or comments about the organization in general. I personally feel that this so called "organization" will be of little to no use to KJ's. I just can't see how we can benefit from it.

Anyway, thanks for the words of wisdom, my friend. They are more beneficial than any organization can ever be.

No. I pay no fees to anyone but the government. I pay taxes, and that is all. I don't belong to the PTA or AAA. I take care of my own. I am not having any problems in this industry as of now. I am working 3 nights a week, and always looking for more. I have a good reputation in my area as one who takes care of his customers. My MIND IS open, my wallet is not. LOL. BTW it is disdain, and gleaned.

I tell you I pay AAA every year, and some years it's just a donation, other years it's helped me out more than I could afford at the time.
If this would be something that could actually HELP a kj, then i'm all for it and would pay a yearly dues. But if not, then there is no reason.

Lol! See, I learned something today by accidentally misspelling a couple of words but I am sure you were able to understand the spirit of my message.

In your post you mentioned of problems within the industry (aside from the manus), can you elaborate? Maybe someone here has a solution.

Regarding fees, you don't pay for cable or other subscription items of any kind, really?

I don't believe Smoothedge69 expressed this specifically, but I am guessing that he probably feels the same as several others here do regarding paying a fee to join this new NKA. That would be, we are not willing to pay something to receive nothing. In your example of Cable or subscription items, you are paying a fee to receive something in return. Me personally, I won't pay a fee just to obtain bragging rights that I belong to the NKA.

That being said, I still am willing to give this NKA a chance, and wait to see what they have to say (in spite of William Beasley's rather put-offish (is that a such word???) response to my simple questions).

Besides, I consider things like Cable to be utilities. If you want to watch TV around here, you need a service.

Why is everybody going ga ga over this so called alleged organization?? You people are nuts. Let me make it clear: this organization, if it ever gets off the ground, will do nothing to help us KJ's. Zip, Zilch, Nada! What part of that don't you get?? Can anyone be more naïve?

And, He Couldn't Even Answer Cue's Questions!

Not off to a very good start in the public relations department, wouldn't you say?? This whole thing is a joke, but what's even funnier is the folks here falling for this nonsense. Do you remember the KIAA? Did that organization do anything to help KJ's? NO! It was just about getting certified, backed by the manufacturers.

Thank you, good night!
