I'm not trying to bust your bubble, I was just trying to be comparative between what your now offering and what we get somewhere else.

to the newbies on here they don't understand all this and you sure don't explain things well. a vague answer is what we get from you most of the time.

sure on your end it looks great, on my end it's not really a good alternative to what's already out there. if you were the only option to get new music then yeah i'd be all over it. but your not.

Pros:
you can put out better music - love this
and release it faster
it's cheaper for you, cause you don't pay any licensing fee's for graphics

feel free to add to my list as you see it

Cons:
we have to do the lyric work "ryok"
paying the same old price for music with out lyric's that's cheaper for you to produce
we risk getting sued for not paying licensing fee's
other manu's produce the same music completely done so we can just download and use it with no added work needed for about the same price.
Beethoven is ugly and clumsy and needs 3rd party support to run

really if something needs to be added go ahead and add it.

Do we have to pay for the 3rd party software needed for Beethoven?

I wish you luck in your new venture. as for me I don't have time, or need the additional risk that comes with your music. and I think until we get confirmation that we won't get sued for making our own karaoke aka "RYOK" very few of us professional host will be buying it anytime soon.

I think the confirmation of this comes from 30 years of people doing karaoke and not a single KJ getting sued by any music publisher ever.

I don't believe a link to the brochure has been posted yet -

but this is new, and opens the flood gates to possible problems.

because we use this in a commercial setting and no licensing was paid.
I mean don't you think the manu's who chose to do this format should verify that it's legal for our commercial use. and not just let it fall in our laps.

It's a "cover your (@$%&#!) situation". with all the crap going on. I've had ASCAP at my door and verifying everything in my books to everything I own.

There is a karaoke bar in Oregon (I believe) that has been creating their own karaoke songs for over 10 years. They even go as far as stripping out vocals AND adding their own lyrics - the link was posted here before though it eludes me now, they even advertise the fact if it isn't made, they'll make it. They have been doing this over 10 years. The club they play pays their PRO fees.

Here's what I am thinking will happen, pure speculation, but in any case.

I think that if enough people embrace the RYOK concept, then the music publishers will start to take notice, but realize that the cost and expense of going after individuals is not worth the possible negitive image they might get not to mention the amount of money they could realistically get out of one person or company.

So instead, they will be forced to offer a blanket liscense for karaoke, the exact way they do for DJs to use music on there computer here in Canada.

This will offer a fool proof way to tell if a karaoke host is 'legal' or not, and then the KJ will be able to act without any fear at all. This would also solve the whole media shifting issue that comes with ripping your own discs to a hard drive.

Its not a perfect solution granted, but it would be a start

To Bastiat,
I think the RYOK product is a fantastic idea!
Of all those who have promised a product that will "change the way you think about karaoke forever" I believe this one comes closest to actually doing just that.
Although I'm not personally interested in the current song offerings, I plan to purchase a pack later this week to give it a try just to see how well the wiping works out.

As you know, when given limited information, we tend to extrapolate and speculate to fill in the blanks. With the information given, I'm guessing the CDG creation is accomplished by comparing the track without vocals to the track with vocals. This is an amazing idea in it's simplicity to solving multiple problems.

I can see how this solution will give you the ability to produce tracks in the future that nobody else is offering due to their mythical "no-fly-list" and give us the ability to offer our singers songs to sing that the lazy KJ down the street can't offer.

The one thing that could get me even more excited about the product would be if you start offering your tracks on an a la carte basis including your back catalog.

P.S. If we need both the vocal track and the non-vocal track, then the true cost is $2 per final product (still a great price for a quality track).

I wish for you the best of success in this venture.
I believe this is the type of innovation the industry needs at this time.

To those who are pessimistic,
This product stands a chance of offering us content we would otherwise be unable to acquire anywhere.
We stand a greater chance of being sued by someone who doesn't like the way we run a rotation than we do over displaying our own lyric creations in a venue where the Pro fees are paid.

I am a little confused as how one could make two versions of a duet song, because in order for that to work, you would need to have a track that completely separated the male and female *or two voices, as the case may be* parts.

Even the multiplex songs that have been released in the past usually don't have this, it's either one or the other.

Karaoke Version often has their tracks as "custom" versions where you can actually add background vocals or harmonies/duet track or remove them completely. So you could actually have a version for a male only with female vocals added, and a female only with male vocals added, and have a version with no vocals at all being a true duet version.

I have to say that the music titles are 80% better...good job PHM...this should being back some of your past customers.
the only down side for me is having to take the time to put it together..Im not sure if I want to...rather ..buy..rip and go
Im not saying this a bad program due to the fact I haven't tried it yet....I just wish we didn't have to do it
You should offer a CDG download format instead of RYOK..I feel it would go over a lot better

But if they offer a CDG download then sync rights come into play and a lot of good songs become off limits, and costs go up.

How in the hell did ASCAP audit your files? They have no right whatsoever to do that. If they did that it is because you allowed it. ASCAP is responsible for the venues paying their fees to the rights holder, not to see if you own your music. I call bullsh!t on this statement.

Rick, I agree with you about what you said ASCAP does and doesn't do, but maybe it was someone CLAIMING to be from ASCAP, and mightywiz fell for their song and dance (no pun intended).

To frede and DannyG2006 - visit our website at http://www.pophitsmonthly.com. Order any RYOK product and you'll get a free copy of Beethoven v1.0.

I ordered the January 2014 Pop release. I already had most of the songs from KJMP (and most of them had not been unlocked) but I thought I give it a try. May be the only way I'll ever get 'I'll Have What She's Having' by Reba McEntire. Shameless Plug

I'm hoping that the February tracks will be for songs that I haven't already added to my library.

Considering we just heard about this 7 days ago (directly from the source), maybe you should wait and see what frede and/or jclaydon have to say (the 2nd and 3rd previous posts just before yours).
