One of my venues purchased some gear to install a pseudo-permanent install. Speakers will be hung but the Mixer and other components will be in a tall rolling case so they can roll to the back room or re-position for different events.

I use Odyssey cases, but I think it is overkill for this scenario.

Any suggestions on a cheap, tall (standing DJ/KJ) case? (also....doesn't have to be carpeted)

You're not going to believe this, but hit Kmart for a cheap rolling entertainment center. You might have to paint it, but they sell that too. Not for the rigors of mobile use, but ok for rolling around a venue.

My mini system "rack" is actually a raised Martha Stewart double free-standing shelf that cost $19. Added a light under the second shelf for my discs. Had it for 8 years.

After speaking to the venue owner, he wants it to look more pro so I am picking up a Road Ready case for him tomorrow.

Saturday will be a full day of wiring up the venue and sound checking with one of the regular bands that plays there. I have to admit, I am pretty excited about getting to nerd out with the wiring and layout, plus hang out with some great musicians.
