I see a lot of posts of people talking about the proper "gain structure". I do have some idea about this. But how do you set the gain of one component going into the next without any kind of indicator? Let's say I am setting something up going into the BBE 822. This BBE does have a gain indicator, so I just set the knob up until just the gain at 0 flashing, just before clipping, which is +10. But all the other pieces, before and after the BBE (just an example) are without any gain indicators. So, how do you properly set all the pieces together for the proper gain? Thank you all.

Can you give an example of a device that has a variable input but does not have a signal\clip indicator? I don't think I've ever seen it.

Take my set-up for example. I have the wireless mic and the karaoke HD based machine's output going into some unknown echo/delay (no gain indicators). This echo/delay piece has separate controls for music and mic (2). I then have its output to the BBE and from the BBE to the powered Behringer speakers. I used to have the Peavey-10 mixer in the mix, but took it out because I thought it was not necessary. I have the wireless' gain at around the 10 O'clock. The echo piece at around 12 O'clock and the master output knob at 10 position. I then adjusted the BBE (at around the 1 O'clock) or until I see the lights flashing at 0 or just before the +10. Then the speakers' gain knobs at around 11 or 12 position. I am just guessing with all these settings and not very sure if they are at optimal levels.

I guess the weakest link in this set-up must be the China made echo machine and the mixer. So, after reading the posts here in this forum, I am thinking about upgrading to the TC M-One processor. I already have the Artpro MPA II tube pre-amp. So, I will put it all together this time, including the Peavey Mixer. The Behringer 15 sounds fine (a little too bright, though), but I also thinking about upgrading those to the EV powered speakers. Should I get the 8 or 12 inch for Karaoke purpose? I could not find any 10 inch, which I prefer, at Zzounds (they offer 8-Payments Plan). Thank you for reading.

You can adjust the brightness with the treble knob on the back of the speaker.

If I do that, I will just reduce the response of the entire high frequency range of the crossover, including the mid-range, which I don't really want to suppress. An equalizer is in order...But I don't really want to complicate things too much.

If things are sounding too bright, you have the BBE turned up too much on the presence knob. Common mistake. Too many people think of this as more of a bass/treble control when in fact if used properly, should hear just enough of a change between the in/out setting, if it's a drastic change, then it's not set properly.

You're correct, Lonman-I had the BBE knobs turned up way too much. The BBE does make the music sound really good, though (thunderous!).

Then put it on the music only (provided you aren't using a USB interface for it). But even then, you don't want to turn it up too much.
