And I made (what I feel is) the closest/most accurate version for "Paradise By the Dashboard Light." I merged DK's Narration part into the ZOOM version (which cut that part out). I feel that Zoom gave the most cues for where the Female parts are supposed to be (as other versions just gave it mostly to the Male). I also like the fact that ZOOM got the double word-swipes correct for both the Male and Female at the end of the song.

My favorite version of PBTDBL is the original Allhits version. The music is spot on, AND YOU the SINGER gets to do the play by play!! I just did the Zoom version last night, and while I like that they make sure that all the singing parts are there, I find it too fast, and the fact that the play by play is missing really annoys me.

I agree with you about the music for PBTDBL on ALL HITS. In my books, where I list this song, I indicated which version had the Phil R. part in the background, and which version didn't, so a person could choose if they wanted to do that part or not. It's a mixed bag on that.

ZOOM isn't too fast... It just seems that way because the UK versions (Zoom and Sunfly) jump from
"We're gonna go all the way tonight.
We're gonna go all the way.
Tonight's the night."

to

"STOP RIGHT THERE! I wanna know right now..."

And you don't realize what hit you.

Believe it or not, the best professionally made version ( I use the word "best " to describe what I now feel to be the least of all evils :-) ) of PBTDBL is actually All Hits. At least it is the one most of my singers prefer.

WHOOPS. Sorry, I somehow slipped past the posts above. Ok, I third.....

I have been singing that song since it first came out, with the song, Acapella, and then on Karaoke. Zoom's version is too fast from the very first note. And Joe, I don't know what your people are asking for. Allstar's version is just terrible. LOL. I sing a lot of Meat Loaf. I am VERY particular about my Meat Loaf.

I think Joe meant to say All Hits... after all, he did end that with "I third" (in agreement with you and me on the music for that track).

Aside from the money the publishers already received from the GEM licensing, the revenue SC generates from lawsuits, in part, goes to support other royalty-generating activities, including non-GEM products, and it gets us closer to making new music.

Thank you..

Biting a whole in my lip trying to stop laughing at that smooth cover up BS.

What it really means is: Aside from the money the publisher caught us stealing and what we voluntarily paid, it helps us pay our increasing insurance premiums due to heavy losses occurred by getting caught with our pants down!

SC did not cause the rights holders to come down on everyone, that is one thing they are not guilty of. There are plenty of other things they have done wrong and the smart people already know it. Learning disabled are still defending a lost cause.

Yes they redid a lot of what's in the gem series.

I would agree on the All Hits version being one of the better ones - musically anyway. I list the SC version for those not wanting to sing the play by play but still want to hear it. I may get the Zoom version for those NOT wanting it at all. All Star's version actually sounds like it was composed on a midi keyboard.

Thank you Cue. You are correct, and I have fixed my post. Fact is, I think most of what All STAR has put out so far is of low quality, which is why I now wait for the SyberSound versions.

8) I think you have answered your own question Paradigm there are no other royalty generating activities. They have the GEM licensing that can only be sold through this legal process and the fear it generates. Fear is not the best selling method, especially if the chances of you getting sued are about 2% out of a hundred. That is why I think Jim floated the idea of SC downloads, to see if that is a possible way to generate extra revenues needed to at some future far off date, resume the production of new material. I don't even rule out the idea that at some point SC might join DT on the Cloud. If Jim is only making his office operating costs then other revenue sources need to be explored. Otherwise it would seem this whole legal process gambit will come to a complete halt.

Ok, allow me to ask you to ask yourselves a two part question in hopes of settling minds and debates :

A) List all the POSITIVE Things that you think SC is CURRENTLY contributing to our karaoke industry.

B) List all the negative things that have occurred in our industry connected to SC's CURRENT activities, and add in how they have been profiting from our industry though years out of the karaoke music production business.

On the whole, how would you rate their CURRENT impact on our industry? Positive or negative?

I like how you lump in SC's profits from the karaoke industry as a "negative."

No one has ever been forced to buy or use SC products. If SC earned a profit from its activities, it was because its customers believed they would receive a benefit at least equal to the price paid for the products.

That's basic capitalism and basic free-market economics. If you don't like it, there are other economic systems that might be more to your liking.

I have never understood why people think that SC was gouging the market by charging higher prices. Were they more expensive? Yes. Did you get what you pay for? Absolutely. They made their name by having the best "true to the original" songs, there is no debate there.

After all, if they were charging premium prices for a sub-standard product, nobody would have ever bought those foundations & bricks.

But they did...in droves.

I think the current state of the after market demonstrates exactly how valuable Sound Choice is compared to every other disc based brand that has ever been produced.

There is ABSOLUTELY NO OTHER BRAND that commands the same high after market price as Sound Choice. Not a singe one. Even DK has lost steam in the past 2 years. Sound Choice is going UP.

Sound Choice is still the single most desirable brand for music that was produced during the time period that were actively producing music.

But to Answer Joe's Questions -

A) List all the POSITIVE Things that you think SC is CURRENTLY contributing to our karaoke industry.

The GEM series is still the highest quality product on the market.
Sound Choice is the only company that seems to be making any significant effort to stem piracy at any level.
Many pirates were forced to, or all on their own, pay SC for product they had been using for a long time for free.

B) List all the negative things that have occurred in our industry connected to SC's CURRENT activities,

To the best of my knowledge, nothing Sound Choice has done has negatively impacted myself or any of the other legitimate hosts in my area. I have only heard of negative impacts in others areas of the country though I have seen little proof that it as bad as some have made it out to be.

The ONLY people I have ever actually heard raise any negative concerns about Sound Choice are KJs and a couple of lawyers trolling for clients and blog hits.

The only negative I can come up with is that I don't like that those they sue and settle with end up with GEM's and thus are enabled to better compete at a library level. But in all honestly, as time has gone on, I am far less concerned with this because I know how to beat the competitors with other means.

The people they sued that couldn't produce their discs, deserved to be sued.
The venues that don't allow Sound Choice (and I still have never actually seen proof of this taking place) are ignorant of the facts.

and add in how they have been profiting from our industry though years out of the karaoke music production business.

They are a for profit company. So am I. So is Joe. So is every other KJ and every other karaoke manufacturer. Sound Choice is not profiting from suing people, they are recouping losses. They are profiting from the sale of GEMs.

That said....

Digitrax is profiting from 3rd party product that has been out of production for years (DK). (How much do you think DK is getting out of that deal? [if there is even a deal]).
The bulk of Digitrax inventory is re-branded Chartbuster material that has been out of production for 2+ years now.

Every karaoke manufacturer continues to profit from the sales of their back-catalog. EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM!

Btw.....Elvis.....Dead. Michael Jackson.....Dead. Marylin Monroe....Dead. Whitney Houston.... Dead. Jimi Hendrix.....Dead. Kurt Cobain.....Dead. There are still people getting rich off of product these artists made a long time ago. Maybe we should stop that since the artists can't produce anything new.

Julie Andrews can't sing any longer. I don't think she should be allowed to collect royalties (if she even gets them) for any song recordings she is involved with since she doesn't/can't produce anything new.....

i would consider this a positive for the industry (making the rightsholders money and keeping them happy with the industry) if it is happening....so i'm asking again.

i was audited in November 2010 with 1 rig and 3 shows, From January 2011 to January 2013 i tried to grow using that in my literature and talks to venues. the result (as i have stated before) ranged from being asked to leave with many 4 letter words to chased out with a gun. in January 2013 i decided to remove the name Sound Choice from the literature and my talks. In October 2013 we stopped expansion with my wifes cancer diagnosis and were at that time running 3 rigs (2 with 0 SC material) and 10 shows a week. At which point WE stopped looking so i could concentrate on this cancer BS and have been turning down gigs until it's over. i think that would fall into the negative category.
i have to disagree with Chris on one point, they are not making any effort to stem piracy, they never intended to do that....self admittedly they never intended to do that.

i do agree with Chris on making money selling what they have, why not? it's still a business. don't know how good a business as they have been selling only warehouse stock for quite a few years now so it sure ain't flying off the shelves. but selling their back catalog is what they are supposed to do.

8) First of all Chris the reason DK has lost steam is that it is almost impossible to find a set for sale that is still in even fair condition. After all they have been out of production for a lot longer time than SC even. Years ago I managed to find a set in an old brick and mortar store and snapped it up for $1100.00. I used these discs once to copy them and put the originals in a safe place, that is all the play time they have ever had. Later I transferred the copies to my hard drive player. When I was still playing they were the most requested brand and if I were playing today they still would be. Desirable is in the eye of the beholder.

Nothing SC has done has negatively impacted you or other hosts Chris. If nothing else SC's end run around U.S. licensing by licensing the GEM series in Europe, has impacted the karaoke industry as a whole. If for no other reason it got the attention of the music publishers that hold the rights to the underlying material from which all finished karaoke product relies on. I find it hard to believe that their actions haven't led to a crack down on new material being made available for those hosts that want it.

I know everything wrong with the industry can be laid on the doorstep of the pirates. They are the whipping boys, but to some degree they are also being punished with the rest of the industry for some of the many mistakes SC has made in it's recovery efforts. None of the other manufacturers have really tried the legal recovery road. I don't count PR because they have really done little that I can see to recover anything. They sued in Tennessee and there has been no word as to the results of those suits, they were I believe filed nearly a year ago. I guess the wheels of justice turn slowly.

Chris just answer me one question if SC is profiting so much from licensing GEM why haven't they gone back into new production after over 5 years? According to you they have a product that is superior in every way to anything out here. Oh by the way if GEM sales are so brisk why hasn't SC used up it's supply of stock? They haven't been able to make new product after GEM so shouldn't the supply run out. If it does and SC hasn't obtained the needed permission to make new product won't they effectively be out of business. I just wonder how many GEM's they are sitting on?

You, as "The Lone Ranger" should remember the unlimited amount of bullets in a cowboy six shooter.

So why question the unlimited supply of product?

8) You also remember jdmeister that some just use silver bullets, so they can be identified, and they never shoot to kill only to capture. Now getting back to the real world, it would seem that if SC still has a large stockpile of GEM product for licensing, then the statement that sales have been active can't be right. They haven't made any new product for sometime.
