Never said you said 'every' host. I was stating I was one of those that don't nor ever needed them!

Never had nor needed the DK set - Pioneer was the original staple up here & I don't even have a complete set of those as that is about the time SC, MM, among other brands really started taking over. I do have 21 DK discs (19 from original 99) for probably a song or two on each disc that I happened to need (or that I got in bulk buys).

Lots of people have DK that shouldn't. How many sets of disks were even ever made?

Of course this has absolutely nothing to do with the OP.

8) I guess Chris back then people enjoyed the karaoke, and weren't concerned about numbering everything, so we will never know how many original sets were made. I do think this is in line with the OP "What Hath SC Wrought"? Here we have two different manus with different approaches to their product. SC has made themselves into a negative suits drives sales former manu. DK is a former manu who doesn't have any negative baggage it carries with it. At least as far as being seen as a company using the legal system to sell it's unsold inventory. Their inventory was sold a long time ago.

P.S. Why should it bother you that lots of people have DK that shouldn't? I mean according to you it is an inferior product, after all you have your Excalibur SC. Don't tell me that you are afraid of an inferior product?

It's been my experience that many of my original karaoke crowd from the 90's have grown up, moved away, had kids....some have grand children now and many of these folks rarely, if ever come out to sing anymore. These were the ones that were used to SC and would insist on singing to SC's discs. Now that SC has stop producing discs and as my crowd is now younger, the demand for SC has dwindled considerably. In fact most of my younger folks don't give a hoot in hell which MANU I use, as long as I have the SONGS they wish to sing!

That being said, I will say this: For several years I have kept my opinions about the whole piracy/SC thing to myself. I bought and paid for ALL of my discs. Each one is a LEGAL disc purchased from authorized retailers! My attitude is this: SC can do whatever they damn well please. I DON'T CARE! I've had a successful Karaoke show BEFORE SC and I'll continue to have a successful Karaoke show if they never produce another track!

Please understand if a customer at my show specifically requests a SC version I will gladly accommodate them, but with all of nonsense going on in the industry, it's only a matter of time before the newer singers will ask "What's Sound Choice?"

FWIW

In the year that I have had regular shows, and all the years that I have been filling in for my friends, I have gotten exactly 2 requests for a SC version of a song, and 1 for a CB version. Around my area people just want to sing. I have plenty of good versions without SC, and my people are happy. I use SBI, Zoom, and DK mostly. Zoom is making EXCELLENT music. I find much of it superior, both in rendition quality and sound quality, to SC.

You should stop making leading statements. Don't like a little taste of your own medicine? Its exactly how you operate.

I just did exactly what you do. Its called a logical fallacy and you are full of them.

Look it up.

8) Thieves don't seem to bother the other manus either, since only SC seems to need the legal process. Maybe that is because all of the old available inventory has been sold by former manus. SC seems to be the only former producing manu that has several years worth of unsold inventory on hand. Since this inventory has been paid for, the only way SC is going to recoup it's investment on this unsold inventory is to use this legal process to encourage customers to buy, that otherwise would not.

This is exactly what I am talking about. You are doing it again. Right now.

At least you have publicly admitted to twisting facts. Thanks for that, I guess.

Actually it's been my experience as well, however I do still educate those who don't know & if I have a better version (from any manu and no it's not always SC) than they are used to, then I will show them the difference - sometimes asking them to try the version or showing them at the end of the night with a side by side. Quite often they will agree and start asking for the better version. The few that don't are simply used to what they know and aren't willing to change.

8) I think I choose to retire at a good time. I was there for the boom years of karaoke, maybe the stage is set for the next step of evolution for the entertainment industry. You can still make decent money doing Golden Oldies shows. If you also DJ private parties and weddings are always golden also. I don't miss the grind of doing six shows a week, sometimes more. This business of SC using the legal process is just an act of desperation. I really don't think it is anything more than a defunct company trying to sell its huge inventory of unsold product, plain and simple. There is no market and they are trying to create one. Like Harold Hill said, "We got trouble right here in River City". I also believe that PR was going to follow in their footsteps using the legal process to have hosts sign up for DT's Cloud. It would seem that they have stepped back from that as well.

I know the answer to the problem is to sell all the pirates on licensing SC or subscribing to Cloud. That would not solve the average host's problem of a dwindling market and making more hosts legal and able to compete. The market like others has suffered from the economic downturn coupled with an over saturation of hosts aka supply. Making it a buyers market as far as hiring a karaoke service. For a host to stay in business they have to have a superior product, at a price that makes sense to the hiring venue.

like I tell my six year old...

"you get what you get and don't throw a fit!"

as for sound choice I have the complete 7500 series and another 200 soundchoice disc's
and I own both dk scdg's and original dk set 1-87.

wish I could find the last 12 disc's 88-99 but they are very rare for some reason.

myself I like the dk disc's cause they have the melody softly in the background and it helps
keep the singer in tune and I prefer to use them for my singers that have pitch issues.

That is exactly why I hear the complaints on the DK tracks ( a couple other brands did this too, I hear the same complaints on those too).
