so one night, i flipped out on the crowd because nobody served me a piece of birthday cake. i just got tired of YEARS of being a KJ and folks barking at me to "play the birthday song" or to announce someone's birthday for the millionth time that night and i see cake being passed out FREELY to the every body in the audience and i'm starving but nobody brings me a piece of cake...ever and i'm working hard over here ever since i did my tantrum, i get a piece of cake. promptly. if yall need help at your venue, i'll come for free and throw a tantrum every KJ, DJ and bartender should get a piece of birthday cake weather we want it or not if you ask me don't let me find out some of you KJs, DJs etc aren't getting your piece of birthday cake!!

oh and after i threw my tantrum for not having any birthday cake when i play the music and do all the birthday announcements, how the hell you gonna forget me every time, the very next week the staff bought a sheet cake with my name on it and signed a card with money in it. yeah i felt like a total (@$%!) for throwing my tantrum. but it should be an amendment to the constitution. we are the KJs and DJs and bartenders. give us our 1 piece of birthday cake. whether we want it or not. nowadays, you better believe i sometimes have more than 1 piece of birthday cake served to me. and to my venue that makes sure i get my cake now, if you ever come across this THANK YOU !!

Never had a problem with that. If there is cake, I always get offered a piece. I did a wedding yesterday, and only the wedding party got cheesecake.....................and the DJ!! The rest of the guests got cupcakes!! I felt special!!

I really could care less if I got offered cake or not. I'm not there to get cake but to put on a show & any tantrum to those that didn't offer me cake would make me look ridiculous.

i know folks gonna frown when they see that i throw a fit over a piece of cake. but it's ridiculous that nobody ever thinks of us KJs as people in the room so they don't give us cake. so, it's a respect thing. i'm teaching the crowd that "KJs are people too, don't forget it." it's nothing to take personal, but i took it personal after years of watching everyone get cake and i'm left out. it's a simple, innocent gesture to not think of the KJ as a person who also gets cake, yeah, i get that. but gimme my piece of cake. and i only had to do this at the venue where i've been at for 8 yrs straight. you know how many bday parties i've been through there compared to how many times someone remembered to actually give me a slice of cake? i'm not gonna be pressed at the other venues. and as long as i get my cake somewhere, we're good. but i'm gonna need my piece of cake. so any of yall KJs out there got a problem with your venue not getting you your just due piece of cake, let me know and i'll be there with a swiftness!! demand your cake!

I have never been offered cake, but no one has ever brought cake either.
I have been invited to many after parties in the past few years and I hang out with some of my regulars outside of my karaoke shows.
Like Smooth said, treat them like family and friends and it comes back around.

Product as the KJ you are not part of the birthday party. If they want to give you a piece of cake, fine, but to expect it is in very bad manners and taste. It is their party, not yours.

You should not expect to be fed. You are there to do a job, not to eat. If they offer, that's one thing but you should never expect it.
Throwing a tantrum?? Yeah, you're professional alright.
Again, where do you come up with these ridiculous questions?

This is a lot more refreshing than all those non-stop, talking in circles debates about SC, lawsuits, and illegalities that have been going on for the last 4 years in here (and all of the in-house fighting with each other as a result of those subjects).

Actually........I feel for you Product 19. When you see people handing a piece of cake to every single person in the bar, including the bar staff, but they leave you out, it can hurt one's feelings a bit. But I wouldn't throw a tantrum about it or make demands. It would just be NICE to not be the only one left out--it isn't obligatory and to ask is a bit rude when it is theirs to offer.
I've done mass birthdays that included mine and would be stuck working and by the time I got free there was no food left--and in that case it was supposed to be MY birthday, too, yeah.
I've tried to get the bartender's attention when I am desperate for a glass of ice water and had to give up as the song was about to end. I try to bring my own but on hot summer nights I sometimes need more and have to enlist a singer to bring me something. They are usually happy to help.
Here is a secret--sometimes they DO bring me cake. And it is really difficult to eat it without ending up with sticky fingers on the mixer, no matter how hard I try. It would be just the thing to save for after the show, though.

I usually turn it down due to an allergy to nuts. The cake usually ends up being carrot cake which normally has nuts.
