I live in a small town. I get recognized by everyone. Oh, yeah, because I know everyone.

The first time I went to Las Vegas (about 12 years ago), I went to The Barbary Coast for Karaoke one night. It was a one-song night (because everyone was waiting to sing). I sang "Does Your Chewing Gum Lose Its Flavor."
The next day, I'm with my friend, and we're walking up the Las Vegas Strip. Someone in the street points to me and shouts out, "That's Cueball! He was at the Karaoke Show I went to last night."
Gee! It's nice to be recognized and remembered.

it's kind of embarassing when it happens to me, because it is usually someone I don't remember and have no clue what their name is

I try to be as inconspicuous as possible when I go out but sometimes it's unavoidable. Someone will recognize me and want their picture taken with me as well as wanting my autograph. Depending on the mood I'm in will determine whether or not I comply.

I get recognized by geeks and computer nerds now and then because of my work at Microsoft. I have only bumped into karaoke folks a few times because most of my karaoke shows are 20+ Miles from where I live, shop, eat, frequent. But as I mentioned in another thread, I am friends with a number of karaoke regulars and we get together outside of karaoke pretty regularly.

In small towns most people already know you anyway so can't say that anyone has pointed me out as a host. But after the first time I ever tried singing karaoke I went to a restaurant to order take out and the cook recognized me as having sang the night before. I've told this one before but my first ever "review" was:
"We enjoyed WATCHING you last night. Maybe you should stick to instrumentals."

(not that we KJs are anybody. but it's nice.) The egos on this board never cease to amaze. KJ ranks below "Strip Club DJ" and somewhere slightly above "Middle School Dance DJ" on the musical food chain. If you are doing this because you think it's some kind of "glamor job" and you'll will be recognized on the street, you have made a serious wrong turn on the career path of life.

Google "Chris Avis" or "Chris E. Avis"
I spent a long time as a public speaker in the tech industry. Living in Dallas, San Diego, and now Seattle, I bump into people pretty regularly that know me from my technical days. My new day job is still in the tech industry, but I am behind the scenes now so I won't have anything close to the same level of exposure I used to have.
I actually enjoy the relative anonymity that karaoke provides me.

In February I went to Las Vegas to the Mobile beats DJ show for the first time. And Kurt with Sound Choice told me to stand up and recognized me for having the complete spotlight collection. It was a very proud moment for me.

I've been on the scene here in Dundalk for 10 years now, and the Sea Horse is one of the most popular bars in town, so I do get recognized with some frequency. Its a bit startling really, but very nice when people take the time to say hi to you. I smile and say hi back, and maybe talk a bit. My daughters think its neat. We've been out twice now, once at a store, and once at a restaurant where people came up and were like, "Hey Koyote!" They're like, "Wow dad you're like a celebrity"... . I just sort of chuckle and say, "Except without the money and fame."
