So I have a KJ friend who wants to go digital, so I offered to help her out with some software and setup etc.

So I go over to her place to help, and it turns out that she hasn't converted ANY of her discs yet *she was thinking that she would be able to switch by the end of the month when she had bought the software*

She offered to pay me to do it, and I said I would think about it.

Now I could save myself a bit of time by going on the torrents, but I would really rather not, because there is always the risk of a virus, plus it personally makes me feel uncomfortable. In fact if it came right down to it, i would rather spend the time converting the discs myself than use the torrents, no matter how much time and aggrivation it may save me.

What I was wondering is if there was anyone here who would be willing to send me the converted files or even just the graphic portion of the files. Let me stress that these are for discs that i have personally witnessed in her possession and would be willing to submit proof of such, if required.

I'm not entirely sure everything she has yet, but I do know that she has a DK 1-99 set and a bunch of music maestro I haven't gone thru yet.

Even if I could get clean rips of just the DK set, it would save me hundreds of hours of work

if anyone is willing to help, please pm me

-James

The way I look at it is everyone has to experience the time it takes to do the conversion so they can fully appreciate what has been done.
Torrents - not only are you looking at possible viruses, but inferior rips & garbled graphics. I would avoid this.

+1, you really need to burn your own. It would be lots of work to even match up her tracks to someone else's MP3+Gs. If you want to send me the discs and pay me for my labor, I'll burn them for you by the end of the month. How many total discs?

FYI, it took me three months to burn about 1300 discs. I basically burned about 12-16 discs a night after work on weekdays while I watched TV on two separate computers. I almost never did any on weekends, but really didn't miss any weekdays either.

Sounds like this gal has more like a couple hundred. It shouldn't take more than about three weeks if you are consistent with it. 90% of the time you will spend is waiting for the burns to complete, and you can do something else during that time, so it's not like you have to find hundreds of hours of free time. Burn while you normally watch TV and you'll have them done in about four weeks. Really tear into it in your free time, and it'll be more like 10-14 days.

Seriously, though. If you want to send me the discs, I'll burn them for a reasonable fee. I have most of the DK set, but not all, and quite a few Music Maestro oldies sets, so might be able to save some time.

Good luck!

I was going to offer the same as Topher. I have a massive library already ripped including the DK set and a ton of Music Maestro.

Send me a list of what need to be ripped and I will send you an estimate of what it will cost for me to convert.

I know how much time is involved, because I have personally converted my own collection all by myself. It took me three months to rip and double check my chartbuster essentials 1-6 set.

I had fully expected to pay for someone's time and for the convience of not having to start from scratch, so that is not a big problem

The reaaon it is going to take so much extra time is because I will have to convert the discs a batch at a time, because she still needs them to do her weekly shows, I could actually probably work on it during her show

For the Chris and Topher, when you offered did you mean I'd have to send you the actual disccs, because I understand why, but it isn't feasable.

I was going to do half the job myself and ask for help on the other half, I will pm you both when I have all the details. Thanks for responding

-James

hmmm... I hadn't thought of this as an option before now. I've burned all of my music to hard drive that I could. There is a handful of discs I cannot get to burn, at all. (even went out and bought a new Plextor drive, as well as took them to a local shop to buff to no avail). I kind of think the Plextor drive is just re-branded, and might not be the quality of it's namesake for cdg burning.

If someone with an extensive library might have these tracks, I would entertain sending a flash drive to get them to mp3g format. Happy to provide proof of ownership on the discs (photo's maybe?).

I cranked out around 650 discs in about 2.5 weeks on 2 pc's originally. I didn't let them sit very long, whenever I was home, I was burning. And have added a lot since then.

You'd probably have better luck asking to send the discs to someone to rip for you. People get really antzy around here when you are talking about copying their files, even if there is proof of discs. I am too, so I am not knocking it.

Many here have several different ways to approach ripping discs. I have only done a few recently, so I won't throw my hand up but there wasn't a disc I couldn't rip when I was at it hot and heavy.

Yes. You would have to send discs. I need to know the discs exist.

I imagine my turnaround would be a day or two at most given the collection I have.

Plextors of the last 8 or so years haven't had cdg support directly. Some softwares would still work.

I understand, i was thinking skype with your time added in to the cost *good enough for soundchoice* but that's ok I will just do the work myself.

She'll have to wait a bit longer.
