At my 7 Night karaoke show, I am going to put in some lighting to be controlled via DMX. I have two Scorpion Storm lasers here and plan to add some strobes LED Spots, and perhaps some wash lighting bars. I want to be able to create some great lighting effects where we have manual control as well as programmed light shows that can be activated on demand.

I have used the Chauvet Obey 40 Controller and like it, but I want an easier way to program lights to specific songs. Basically take certain songs that get performed regularly and create light shows that can be called up on demand and "synced" with the karaoke track.

Is anyone using the free ShowXpress software? Thoughts?

I have also been using the Chauvet obey 40 for about 3 months now to control a few intimidator 250's, chauvet 4 bars, and 8 uplights (weddings) and it is just starting to make sense. (takes me awhile).

Why couldn't you program the light show for these particular songs and bank them. You can save like 240 scenes on the obey 40. Bring it up when your playing the song. I know it will take a long time to program but that's the price for fortune and fame:)

After checking out the ShowExpress software, I am even more convinced that is the way I would like to go. It works with a touch screen and has a lot of flexibility for importing/exporting. It also recognizes a HUGE number of lights and accessories.

Because I will eventually be doing bigger light setups at multiple venues, it would be nice to create scenes on a home setup, then import them into the systems at the venues.

I am in the learning stages of Showexpress. Have only scratched the surface of the software and so far I love it. Which dongle are you using. I have the 512 from chauvet.

I was doing some research and stumbled on the ShowXpress software (free!). I installed and started poking around. I have a spare laser at home and a Thin Par LED light plus a few other older DMX capable lights. I may go ahead and get a dongle and start playing around with it in my spare time.

Lighting is something I am very, very, very interested in. I like to create moods whenever I can at my shows. I have been to shows that just run a bunch of lights on chase that are sound activated. Works okay for upbeat stuff, but ballads need rapid chase lights dimmed or turned off. Some songs are better (IMO) with certain color wash lights and spots.

I am looking for new ways to differentiate a Feel Good Pros karaoke experience from everyone else.

There is apparently a BUNCH of free software out there as well as commercial stuff. On the surface it looks like it is a matter of identify the interface that is compatible with the software you want to use. There is some really high end stuff out there designed for controlling every light, video and audio feed in a full size dance club.

This is the stage area....very darker. The overhead light is unfortunately on the same dimmer as the rest of the bar which they want darker at night.



So I have permission to hang a lighting truss from the cross beams (old church turned into a bar).

So what exactly do I need to make showexpress work with my lights? Do I need some kind of specific hardware, or will it work with a midi controller like the one that's built into my Lexicon Omega?
