Sixty-One singers at our regular Saturday Night Moose Lodge show. And probably another 30 or so non-singers. I write the names on the white board as soon as I see them come in the door. This is why I no longer use any kind of video scroll to announce names... Can you imagine waiting to scroll through 61 names?? Our singers can often be found checking the board to find out whether they have time for a smoke, or get a drink, or simply to calculate how long before they're called upon to sing.

I keep my rotation on a pad and use tally marks. Since I never insert, everyone knows who they follow except the anchor, who follows the last addition. Therefore, they know how long a wait they have. Congrats on the new record, Earl !

I don't think you can call it a rotation. I would think you may only have one chance to sing all night???

We finished the list at about 11:45... so rather than start at the top, I called all those who remained up to the floor, and we had a sing-song to finish off the night. (We shut down at midnight). Of course, it didn't help that it happened to be my birthday, and the gang made a big deal of my big seven-oh. Cake & presents & speeches & stuff... so that took nearly a half hour away from the rotation too.

Do you not allow them to bring their drink or fag on stage?

We don't allow drinks on stage... There's a table set to one side specifically for this purpose.
As for smoking... Here in Canada, and particularly here in Ontario, smoking is banned almost everywhere. No government buildings, no public buildings, no parks, beaches, or playing fields, not even private clubs such as the Legion. There's even talk of passing laws banning smoking in private homes and vehicles .. if there are children present.
The anti-tobacco lobby is incredibly powerful.
