Now that's a great way to do it. Nobody feels like they've been one-upped if it's announced that everyone will be singing the same song.

chrisavis wrote: no.....I like the song a lot. I just don't think it is a good karaoke song. . You bring up a helluva strong point here. I happen to love Broadway songs, some gospel, and any other songs with a lot of feeling behind them, but they mostly get zero or bad reaction at my karaoke shows. A song can be great and still suck for karaoke. Great example: Holly Holy.

For the record - I have now performed "Picture" twice in the past week. Both times I have been the Crow part. The first time as a Jaeger inspired joke. Unfortunately, the crowd loved it so we had to reprise it at the same bar a few days later.
Jaeger is evil......
Now I am off to drink that memory away.......

Go out and have a smoke, take that 5 minute crap you've been holding in all night, etc...

There was a time when I did wedding receptions and/or corporate parties pretty-much every weekend. And even now, years later, I still get the urge to pee every time I hear Paradise By The Dashboard Light...

I guess I am different than you people. I have no problem with ANY song that ANYONE sings. I have been a Karaoke patron for 20 years, and have been hosting for 6 years, 1.5 regularly. The ONLY song that gets on my nerves is American Pie, and that is only because I hate it!! I hate hearing it on the radio, I hate hearing it in Karaoke. As for War Pigs, I sing it, from time to time. Everyone has a blast. I get the same thing..........the headbangers and air guitarists come out. And I don't do it often enough for it to get old. I have even gotten good responses to God Is Dead, on the few occasions where I have sung that. Billy Joel, I do Piano Man, but I will also do Goodnight Saigon. I would gladly do Captain Jack. I never tell a person they shouldn't sing something that they want to sing, UNLESS it has cuss words in it, and it is inappropriate to sing it.

You are no different - you just said you have a problem with American Pie - for whatever reason, but you'll still allow it IF someone puts it up I would imagine (unless you delete it from your list) - you just haven't gotten to the point where other songs really start to grate your nerves. I don't think anyone has stated that they wouldn't allow anyone to sing anything. Just would rather not hear certain songs again if given the choice.

I too nominate: Bohemian Rhapsody Don't Stop Believing Picture Killing Me Softly (THe Fugees)
I hesitate to mention The Rose, just because I chuckle to myself when I mishear the "Just remember in the Winter" line as "Just remember Anna Wintour"

Interesting that no one has nominated any 2-minute songs....

To amuse myself,I make up alternate names for songs I am sick of. I was sick of PigShower (Picture) the first time I heard it.
I admit to sometimes singing At Last, Lady Marmelade, and BoRhap, and uptempo Whitney, but they are all comfortably mid range for me, and I change them up a bit from the original melody lines.

all about the bass drives me nuts. I hate repetition just for the sake of it.
