I always dress up. Sometimes it's crazy with colored hair and sometimes its 80's chic but it is always going to be more than I would wear just to go out and sing. I agree you are setting a tone for the night. I think it's disrespectful if folks are going out and spending money and tipping if you are in dirty shorts and an old t-shirt.

At a gig I've been doing since August on Sat nights, I wear a diff costume every night. You can see a few of them on my site (kingbingentertainment). I have yet to wear the same one twice.

That's why I wear old shorts and a dirty T-Shirt.....

You have to dress for the crowd as well. T-shirts & jeans are fine for the place I work (and most places i've ever worked), but sometimes will have some wild button up shirt. When I started working here, we used to dress up - it's not that kind of place as NO ONE dresses up 99% of the time. The way you dress can set the tone, but it can also shy people away if you are dressing over them.
