probably some of you end the night with the same routine song and maybe it depends on the time and venue when your gig ends with what to play as your exit song
sometimes i play a slow-tempo'd song at the end of the night which pisses folks off. i get the sense folks always want me to end on an upbeat song. but i'll play a slow tempo'd song to get folks uncomfortable and outta there--since usually the venue is closing. but i don't wanna be a buzz kill at the end of the night, so i think generally upbeat is probably the best way to end the night

Usually don't change anything as far as fast or slow. Whoever is last in line closes it. Often we'll do a group (whoever wants to come up) closing song. Bohemian Rhapsody and FreeBird are the most popular for group closers.

It is odd being in a state with no mandatory closing times. We just end when we don't want to do it any more. Sometimes the sun is coming up.......But usually after the last singer I will play the bartender's favorite song while the late late late crowd loads the jukebox for round two.

My routine exactly.... even including the group songs... although with my older clientele, Bohemian Rhapsody or FreeBird would not be our choices... More than likely something like... Bad Moon Rising; The Lion Sleeps Tonight; NGDB's I Saw The Light; The Spaniels' Goodnight Sweetheart; or The Mickey Mouse Club theme...

In the bars, I always say goodnight and close with Red Peters "Closing Song". It's hilarious, people get the message and the bartenders love it. It's such a tradition now that often someone will beg to sing it instead of me just playing the song.

When the karaoke music ends, I start playing filler music while I am breaking down. The kind of music I play depends greatly on the venue, and the attitude of the crowd. If it has been a scary kind of night I play downbeat, soothing music. If it has been a good night I will keep things up beat. I will always entertain requests for patrons riding it out to GTFO time.

I play my best, can't miss upbeat filler between 12:00-1:00ish when the bar is most crowded. I keep it upbeat, but ramp down subtly between 1:00 and close.

at the end i had been using red peters "the closing song" for many years and the audience loved it. then i got the karaoke version, and people lined up wanting to sing it to clos ethe night. now i just keep my list of people who asked and pick a new one each night. nothing funnier than watching an 84 year old lady at the VFW singing "get the f@%k out of here".

Usually, my routine is end on whoever's last in rotation and then play either a.) a song for the bartender (my Tuesday night bartender used to prefer The Roots' "The Seed 2.0" until she left for greener pastures, while my Thursday night guy preferred something Boston-related during baseball season, like "Tessie" or "I'm Shipping Up to Boston") or b.) Eddie Money's "Take Me Home Tonight", assuming nobody's sung it over the course of the evening.
Sometimes, I'll switch it up, and have a last song theme each month. November's theme was "slow jams", December's theme was alternative Christmas songs, and I haven't decided on one for January yet. We'll see.

I try to save five or ten minutes for a dance set. It could be a wobble, are a booti call, or it could be a club style dance mix.
OMG remix by fat man scoop and DJ Class, then, I'm the Ish, and Shots is a nice closer.
I also might have some dance song requests, so I try to take those into account when I'm doing my final rotation. The key is to make sure I end it on a high note with people wanting more.

I usually announce the last "karaoke singer". After their song is completed, I thank everyone for coming to the show and then go into some high energy DJ music. I usually play about 2-3 songs, as I am beginning to "break down" . As the final DJ song is concluding I have the bartender turn on the house music (usually sirius radio) and fade my last DJ song out with the house music taking over. This works as a good transition which keeps people in the bar entertained and dancing & of course buying drinks as I finish breaking down and leaving.

We usually end the night with a group song or two... We get as many folks as we can up to the stage area... hand out all five microphones... and break into a couple of sing-along numbers... Usually they put everyone in a real good mood prior to calling it a day....
Tonight however, we had problems getting started... Someone requested that the group do "We Are The World"... but, except for the chorus, nobody seemed to know the song's phrasing. Mid-way through I faded into "The Weight" by the Band... and finally Gene Autry's "You Are My Sunshine"... They loved it!!
Whenever time permits, I like to finish off the night with an upbeat, feel good, group song..

The KJ at our venue usually just lets the tickets run with no specific routine to end the night. My squad are usually the last ones there anyway and we are just there to have some fun, so we don't really mind how it plays out.
I do personally feel it a bit of a privilege to sing last, almost like headlining at a gig. I love it when I get called up to sing people off.
