I don't plan on replacing my SC discs either. Even though I only have 78 of them, I will get certified when it becomes available again. Maybe they can cut me a break on the price of the audit.

I wouldn't dream of telling you what to do Alan.

If you feel:

you don't have a legal right to use the discs you pay for as you see fit

:that SC as a business has a legitimate right to engage in this kind of inspection of your business merely because you bought from them

and to further require you to pay them to inspect your computer

-- then that's your call.

I am curious as to whether you would feel the same if Microsoft had such a policy and if other software manufacturers were to follow this lucrative new business model.

More importantly - if you couldn't buy Sound Choice what would you buy?

I'm guessing since you only have 78 of their discs you must have found something else more valuable for your money. I can't imagine you run a show with (78 x 15) 1170 songs...

Of course they're not the only discs that I have.

And yes, I do agree that you should be able to use your discs in any manor that you see fit.

No way that 200 songs would satisfy my singers. I have purchased and downloaded over 1000 individual songs on request from singers in the past few years.

We promote and get a very eclectic crowd.

I think he meant 200 tailored to the crowd at one venue - if it were an older crowd and a small show it might be done. It'd get pretty darn boring though.

I reviewed my collection last night and started using KJ Pro to see what my collection would look like without my Sound Choice - it was depressing.
I've tended to buy other brands on the obscure stuff, but tried to get SC for the more requested stuff.
If I can pay one time for an audit and be left alone I'm willing to admit defeat.
I don't have to buy more SC but it's hard to walk away from what I have.

have you talked to Kurt or Jim about it? The absolute worst they can say is no. They may be willing to make an exception in your particular case.

Just was asking Mr. Harrington questions in another thread. I imagine I can scrape up the dough to go through the audit one time. And now they seem willing to let you certify once and be done., so I can live with that.

Other people who have fewer discs are more deserving of a free or discounted audit than me. I have a few more SC discs than I thought.
