I need to make my song list bigger or quit. I know guys on eBay are selling this (http://www.ebay.com/itm/142-CDG-DISCS-K ... 1250677256) all the time, but it may be good enough to double my book. Any thoughts?

SSK, SKG, SGB – no thanks. but that's just me.

(Unless you don’t have this brand yet) I’d rather purchase Karaoke Monster Hits. imho I think kmh are (slightly) better. I only have a few but this would be my goto for fillers. Good luck, Ct K.

bottom level quality for the most part. are your singers asking for certain songs? just buying discs to have numbers means nothing if they are not the songs people want. have you tried looking at Tricerasoft or allstarcustom? you can get better versions for low prices and only buy what you need when you need it.

The real ones will be blue and white all others, to the best of my knowledge are fake. Another way to check is disc 61. The song "It was a very good year" by frank simatra will have perfect lyrics except that the title screen doesn't clear properly.

I bought the full set of SGB when I was first starting out many years ago.

Helped to fill the odd holes until I could afford to get better versions.

That's how I plan to use them. I have credits for the good stuff at two sites. The big problem is most people around here can't seem to remember the songs till they see'm in the book. :? Then after they do the song I will replace the SGB track with a really good one. :)

Actually, I think the original SGB discs were Black & Gold, the Blue & White color scheme came later. I'll agree with most when they say that they are basically second or third rate. Quite often what they put down as the words to the song would leave you scratching your head, also the audio was often way hot. That said, they also had the occasional Gem, though as Lonnie and others have stated it was the exception rather than the rule. Plus even today they have titles or versions of titles that no one else has released.

Are they quality? Not even close, BUT, if you can get them for a dollar or less a disc, they will suffice until you can replace them with better.

SBG can be good for certain songs, but unfortunately there are alot more misses than hits. I bought the SBG disc set for the same reason you're describing. What I did and am still currently doing is bought it for the bulk of the book, and the songs that get sung off it that suck balls get replaced by better versions via the tricerasoft store. It's not ideal, but every brand has some hits and some misses... at least it was a cheap way of bringing up my selection fast :)

Edit: Just some background.. At the time I was a 15 yr vet who was sick of working for the same companies that don't train hosts properly and treat karaoke as more of a cash cow than a product for customers. I bought the first company I ever worked for and they only had 1200 songs... I needed reasons to compete and that purchase, as crappy as the sound was, helped me in my quest :)

The guy just gave them to me! I can't lose! I've listen to a lot of the tracks, not bad but not great. SGB will be a "If I have to" brand. :|

I have the SGB 68 set. There really ARE a few good songs there, but most suck. I have been replacing he bad songs as I need to. But yes, they are an ok brand for a beginner. And getting them for free is a definite plus!!

If so it would probably have to be the other way around, because SGB was around way before Allstar.

That's the main reason I use the KJ Media Pro credit based system, a couple hundred bucks for the software and a few credits and 11 thousand songs added to my song books. When a locked song gets requested, I check Tricerasoft and download it from there if available. If Tricerasoft doesn't have it, the wi-fi is down or I'm really busy, I just unlock the song, but that hasn't happen in a long time.

What frede said.....

If you karaoke software allows for updating the song database on the fly, AND you have access to an Internet connection at your venue, just download on the fly. Much more cost effective than trying to proactively buy what you think your singers will want.
