Kirk, I had a sizable cdg collection of around 1200 cd's before I ever did my first gig. Since then I have grown most of my collection by buying, retiring and going out of business, KJ's used cd's. I started buying on EBay and have exclusively purchased through Craigslist for several years now.
There have been several purchases that I have made from people a long distance from my home, and I have stuck out my neck, and also trusted my judgement, by sending the seller all the cash up front and when then get the money they ship the cd's. Included with the up front cash is the pre-calculated cost of shipping. So far I have only had 1 disappointment when several of the cd's were copies and not all originals. Including that deal I average slightly more than $1.25 per cd on all of my EBay and Craigslist purchases.
Buying this way has its flaws in that I have a very large duplicate count of around 2000 cd's. I never turn away a great deal because I already have several of the cd's. That is how it is done.

I've been buying out retiring and going out of business, KJ's myself. I just wish I started doing it sooner. I don't plan on doing anymore then a one opp. I went from 4000 songs to well over 16k and counting.

Southern Cali doesn't seem to have a lot of cdg discs for sale very often, but northern Cali, Oregon and Washington do. A benefit that I have is that my singers only occasionally request an up to date current song.... so Oldies work best for me. I am all psyched up about getting 751 discs tomorrow morning. This will put me past 1300 SC discs (with dupes). It's always like going to a 5 and dime store and buying a "grab bag".... because you have no idea what is inside.

I just found the "other arias" check box on CL. There is a guy in Lancaster, CA with a lot of CDG's for sale. My next call! We are in Idaho right now headed back to WA for a time, I need to see what's in the Spokane aria before we head back down to Cali.

If you go into this site, you will see the listings for all states all at once (without having to type in a specific city).

mrmarog wrote: I just got an unbelievable deal on 751 CDG's for $400 on Craiglist yesterday. The seller says they are all original and "mostly Sound Choice" and DK, and Chart Buster. I am driving 2 1/2 hours (each way) on Saturday to pick them up. This could be my best deal ever. I am hoping to get a SC8125 (which I don't currently have). Houston "I have an SC8125" and an SC8148 and a nearly complete set of DK99's (missing only 14 discs). It was well worth the 5 hours driving and $18 in gas. Along with those 2 special SC's are about 200 more SC discs I haven't checked yet. This was my best deal EVER!!!!

Here is the bummer of buying someone's collection. You won't know what you've got until you compare with what you already have. Out of the 2 recent acquisitions (one for cash and one for barter) I thought I was getting close to 1600 factory discs and in reality I got about 1250. There were copies in both sets.... its the luck of the draw. Out of the 1250 I ended up with 150 SC discs I didn't have and about another 450 various brands that I needed to fill some holes with. The balance of 650 dupes will some day go up for sale along with another 1800 dupes that I already had. Right now I'm up to about 5000 different discs.... maybe a little more. Rikki, I don't even have 1 copy of that SC8414 let alone a spare. I will have a lot of spare SC after this and I will post what I have. Just like in the past I would prefer swapping for discs I don't already have. I have very few Zoom or Sun Fly discs Looking at the really bright side I finally got my SC8125 Eagles disc and an equally rare SC8148. Just those 2 discs are worth close to what I paid for all the discs. On top of that I got a nearly complete set of DK99's (14 discs missing).
