I've been lurking on here for years. I notice that the overriding theme again and again is that most Karaoke hosts double as DJ's. I have been hosting Karaoke for a dozen years and have been an audio engineer for even longer. I have never ran a DJ show or event ,nor will I ever. Just not my thing. My question is are there other KJ's who are sound techs as well?

For local bands mostly, have done shows in the past for large band events and theater shows since I was 16 ('84) - I supplied all PA gear (from 92-03) usually but sold most of my live stuff off for financial reasons. Worked in and owned recording studios (up to 24 track analog and 48 track digital) for almost 20 years - again sold for financial reasons. Mostly karaoke these days but will still do bands on their equipment and come in for studio work.

I too did local bands in the 1970's tell the end of the 80's. Did the collage thing and got a deg. and all before hitting the road with different bands. After that I did some DJing then found KJing. In between I got my journeyman Electrical State license and a pension (over thirty years). Now KJing just for fun.

I've also been in the Live Sound back in the day since the old Soundcraft Delta days 1987-2001. I moved to karaoke due to more $$$ and less work.

Sound engineer/musician here too. The DJ thing makes it easier to get gigs in the sense your clients think they are getting a better deal which works for weddings and private parties $$$$. I don't do it because I know what I don't know about DJ work. The best DJ's I've worked with really knew their music and every style as well. I'd rather split the gig with a GOOD DJ than try to do it myself.
