When a person starts a thread with a question, comment or concern, someone always seems to change the subject before the question or concern was truly addressed. I see it all the time on here.... people hijacking threads for their own views and opinions. Everyone feels they need to be "right" or their opinion to be validated. (I am no different in this aspect either). Though I won't hijack a thread for my own agenda either.
Case in point,, Brian voiced his concerns about the Pokemon game affecting his show, and within less than the first page of discussion it turned into a political battle of opinions. And it's still going on after several pages of "discussion" (read:opinions). Politics and religion have no place in karaoke. If a person wants to talk politics or religion, go somewhere else. If you want to start a thread about such matters, by all means go ahead,,, but keep it out of other people's questions or posts. Do you have the right to voice those opinions??? yes you do, but put those where they belong.
That is what I see is wrong with this entire forum. It has turned ugly and people keep offending others with their holier-than-thou comments. The newbies or prospective newbies come here for answers or possibly to add their own valuable knowledge and see the awful way things go on here,,, and they just turn and run away. Moderators don't seem to want to intervene enough to put an end to the bickering and endless hijacking.... Isn't there a no-hijacking rule??? Apparently it means nothing.
I would like to see new people who are coming here for help or answers or are offering new insights into the karaoke world to be able to see positive threads, new ideas that people may have to offer, or good experiences of previous/recent shows.... SOMETHING that is inviting and friendly. This forum has gone seriously downhill in the last few years. Good people have left because of the endless tongue lashing and arguing.
Is there a place for those heated "discussions"? Sure there is,, but it sure shouldn't be upfront and the first thing that people see when they sign into Karaoke Scene. My opinion doesn't matter really, but this is how I see it. If this forum is to grow and move forward, then Phil and the moderators need to step up and make some changes.

If Politics and Religion have no place in karaoke, we all need to purge our song lists. But I understand your point. And your opinion does matter. Just like mine does. Just like Chip's does. Where I see the issue is when people state opinion as fact. Or just make up "facts" to suit their arguments. It's easy enough for the mods to move threads to appropriate areas when they go off topic. That should have happened in the Pokemon thread. But I am not going to stop responding just because it's not in the correct forum.

And how would you know if I do or do not speak up about our corrupt political system???? Answer me that!!! I just do it in the proper place. I don't yell fire in a crowded church and I don't scream my political or religious views in places that do NOT warrant it.

I choose to talk about religion when asked about mine. IF you don't agree, I am not going to jump up and down that you are wrong. I will just CHOOSE to disagree and walk away. Same thing when it comes to politics.
When I come on here, I CHOOSE to talk about karaoke,,, afterall, isn't what this forum is "KARAOKE SCENE MAGAZINE"? It isn't called CNN or the Hillary vs Donald show. Threads are started for a reason, and people on here CHOOSE for whatever reason they want, hijack valid questions and concerns.
If you want to talk politics or religion, I will be more than happy to fill you ears with my opinion, but it's not going to be on a thread about Pokemon or the size of speakers.

Threads go off on all kinds of tangents and politics is just one of an infinite number of reasons a thread can get off topic. It's not hijacking. It's just moving the conversation forward. If you're at an actual social gathering (you know, old school in-person stuff) and people are discussing a topic, eventually the topic changes, but you don't see people being accused of "hijacking" anything.
I understand how message boards are like organized folders of conversations, but that sense of organization doesn't work in the real world of conversation. If you restrict what is said in a conversation, it feels more like a college lecture than an adult conversation. Maybe the person who started the thread isn't offended when it goes off in a different direction. Maybe they are, but that's for them to decide and for them to make the critique, but even then, that's all they can do, just make a criticism. You've got two choices, a forum of strictly moderated and edited content, or a forum for open discussion. I'd like to think people tend to prefer open discussions. I could give you the whole freedom of speech lecture, but I'm sure you've already heard it.
