I was thinking... how about a list of "concerns" from a singer's point of view and one from the Host/Kj's perspective? (in no particular order)
SINGERS 1. Song selection and access 2. Sign up method 3. Knowing when my turn is.
HOST/KJ 1. Song procurement and list presentation 2. Signing up singers 3. Informing singers
I know there's more... just a start. I started with the rotation, but there are many other concerns.
Wanna help build this list?

Singer Sound quality - does the kj adjust each singer or just leave generic settings that don't work for all? Song selection (one further) - quality of tracks used, SC, SBI, Zoom quality vs SGB, Backstage, Music Maestro quality. Fair rotation - not going to hash this as to what is fair or not, I think that's been pretty well covered in the other thread The club itself - inviting, accepting, friendly staff, good prices, good drinks, good food, good clientele?

KJ- How to keep the show fresh and fun. Setting up the gear for proper sound (keeping feedback to zero) Books/kiosk updates
Singer- (this is from my perspective as a singer)
Good mics and being able to be heard clearly by the audience. Knowing that I will be treated fairly by the host. Being able to support the venue, whether it be drinks or food. I don't like to free load, and I am a not drinker, so I try to order food when available.

I know a couple that don't drink (only water or coffee - can't drink carbonated stuff) but will buy rounds for their table at least once a night which more than makes up for them not spending on themselves.

Yes, that would work. The big problem there is, when we (girlfriend and I) go out, it's only us. Find new places to visit and try. Sad thing tho,, there isn't many places to go anywhere near here (within 50 miles). And most places in Utah that have karaoke, do not serve food. But, if they do, you can bet your bippy that I order something from the menu. Like I said in another thread, some owners are missing the boat on how to make money.

In addition to what's already been said...
Singer's concerns: 1. Is the KJ willing to play from my personal discs? If unable to play from discs, then from my Thumbdrive? 2. Are prices reasonable for drinks, or overpriced? Does the Bar give "Buy-Backs" (seems to be a NY thing)? 3. Does the place serve food... munchie food like Bar Pizzas or Nachos or Wings, or does the place have a regular full menu? 4. Is the KJ set up in a cramped area, where he is just 2 or 3 feet away from the people sitting at the Bar... where the Singers feel like they are competing against these people who are having their own conversations while you are singing? 5. Is there reasonable seating available? 6. Touching upon how a KJ runs his/her Rotation... Is the KJ known for taking BRIBES (a definite turnoff to me if I witness it, and I won't be returning to that KJ's show)? 7. Does the KJ have a TIP jar/jug/bucket, and is he/she blatant about pointing it out to the Singers? I knew of a KJ years ago who was very blatant about her TIP jar. She even used to take a break half-way through her show to sing the "Dollar Wine" song, and dance around in front of EVERYONE with her TIP jar in hand. Her Assistant once coughed several times at me (as I was exiting the stage), and pointing his head in the direction of the TIP jar (while pretend coughing). I looked at him and stared, and pointed out to him that I never once saw him TIP other KJs at the shows we both attended together. 8. Does the KJ run a Karaoke Show, or a mixed show between Karaoke and DJ-ing? If it's a mixed show, is the DJ-ing alternating between each Singer, or just DJ-ing after every 30 minutes for 1 or 2 songs, or maybe just a 30 minute DJ-break approximately half-way through the Karaoke show? Personally, I don't care for the DJ-ing unless it was originally advertised as part of the show. If it wasn't originally advertised as such, and there are people like me who are there and waiting to sing (even if it's waiting for my 2nd or even possibly 3rd song in the night), I would probably still stay, but never return to that KJ's show in the future.
