It been a while since Ive posted anything on here. One is due to the fact I havent been dj karaoke for a while. Back in 2021 I found the Salina Senior Theatre Project..a senior citizens theatre group for those 55+ ..we are in our 4th yr and our 7th show. Although I havent been djing.. Im still adding new selections every month..just in case i decide to go back and do it again...Im always getting asked when will I start up again... ....never know..i do miss it.... but sometimes its nice just to go out and enjoy singing karaoke and not have to worry about the business side of it or dealing with drunk guests...lol

I kinda felt the same way when I shut down my karaoke business (sold it, actually) in Ontario and moved back to my "roots" in Nova Scotia. I really had no intention of doing gigs here... and I did OK for a couple of months. It was a refreshing change to attend karaoke shows, and not have to "push the buttons".

But the "itch" to get-back-at-it returned, and for the past two years, I've doing a once-weekly gig at our local Legion, and lovin' every minute.

Now, although I promised myself that I wouldn't do it, I'm giving serious consideration to perhaps taking on a second weekly gig... I've had requests from other venues, so there's plenty of opportunity. Time will tell.

I took had given up on doing karaoke gigs again when COVID hit. So I wasn't devastated when I got evicted through no fault of my own, we think it had to do with the fact that we complained about the constant breaking down of both of the elevators and our refusal to take out our trash down the stairs, my roommate had bad knees and used a rolator to get around with so it was bad enough that I had to carry the rolator up and down the stairs with both of my shoulders trying to pop out of their sockets. Add to the fact that I had balance problems of my own. But back to the eviction, I was only able to keep my laptop, desktop computers, discs and not much else. So I basically thought that it was over. 30 years in the business had finally run its course. Needless to say a couple of years since the eviction and two apartments since, I started getting requests for private parties and decided rather than continuing telling people that I was retired from the business, I decided that I missed it enough to reinvest in equipment to run shows. I am right now trying to decide upon remaining with a passive speaker system or going active. I have all the equipment now to do the job with a powered mixer and passive speaker system but t like the idea of having an unpowered mixer with other components ioa rack. Finding the perfect power amplifier to fit in the rack is becoming a serious problem for me because I can't find an amplifier that will fit in the rack and not blow my speakers or even be underpowered for my speakers that I can afford. I have found a pair of speakers that actually has the best of both worlds when it comes down to whether to stick with passive speakers or go active and protect my shoulders at the same time that won't break the bank, comes close though. In the meantime I am in talks with a couple of bars, one that I have done business with before, about doing weekly shows for them. With my SSDI check, I really don't need to charge an arm and a leg to run the shows yet I have already lost one to a Karafun user. I don't believe in limiting myself to just the subscription service.
