About 90% of all the tech threads here remind me of a bar scenario I have seen played out more than once.
A gal comes back into the bar and says my car wont start...  A real mechanic tries to ask her if it even cranks
over and tries to get more information. Next thing you know somebody is telling her its the spark plugs. No
hollers somebody else its the fuel pump. Somebody asks what kind of car is it? Its a Toyota, she replies.
A drunk at the end of the bar starts hollering no wonder it dont start its japanese crap you need a Ford..
The guy next to him gets all indignant well I drive a Toyota have been for 5 years and never had any trouble
with it yet (no periodic maintenence).  Their argument has totally interupted the problem at hand and sometimes
they even wind up going out in the alley to knock the hell out of each other. The real mechanic asks again does
it turn over? Yes she replies.. See I told you it is the fuel pump...How long has it been since you had a tuneup?
I dont know she says The next thing you know there is an argument about whether or not the spark plug wires
should be replaced during a tuneup..Another asks have you checked the oil? No but the engine light hasnt been
coming on Oh hell those lights dont mean crap you need a real oil guage to tell whats going on. Finally in desperation
she calls her dad up He comes down opens the door and notices the gas guage is sitting on "0" He puts in a couple
of gallons of gas primes the carb if it needs it.. She drives home and meanwhile the two are back in the bar still arguing
brands and others still arguing about tuneup methods. So the next time it happens the real mechanic ignores all the
bs and goes out to see what the situation is. (He no longer gives advise or tries to troubleshoot in the bar) The only
problem with forum threads the option of going outside and determining what the real problem is doesnt exist....and
then there is always the response this has been discussed many times all you have to do is search. And the search
finds  nothing more than a recording of the bar scenario...

And most reponses are pure guesses and the ones who have experienced or solved these problems in real situations
and found solutions cant even get a response in edgewise and about this time the newbie finds a different and viable source of information.

Having spent quite a lot of time on computer tech type message boards both as a poster and a moderator, I don't think what you describe is anything unique to this site, to be honest ;)

Man, that was a long way around telling your point...... hahaha

Good point, though, & I agree. Sometimes, when you ask something- you do get a bunch of "opinions" rather than tested & true advice from someone who has "been there- done that". Happened to me a few times here I think.

But, when you know next to nothing, and the ones who maybe COULD help you WONT help you, then you have to rely on what info you get and hope the ones giving it know what they are talking about. (not dissing ANYone here, just pointing out a fact, cause it did happen to me) If I would have known a few people a bit better, and felt comfie doing it, I would have simply PM'd them for advice- people I know could have helped. But that wasn't the case at the time- and I reallllyyyyy needed help.

..........(and quit retelling my gasoline story, that was embarrasing)

Yep, I agree...And I quess I'm as guilty as anyone here.

How about if we try to resist the urge to enter into gear battles and just post answers that come from experience, not hype?

Several people here have lots of tech experience to offer.....I would love to see a series of articles concerning the science of sound reinforcement....Like how to patch it all together, how to set gain structure, how to select gear and match it all up, and other stuff like that.

oh, yeah.  it's about all we do.  i've got a slalom, but no one knows how to use it but me.  and i don't trust anyone enough to ski while they're driving.  i'm real nervous about that.  maybe if we were on a different lake, but we always go to travis which is very heavily traveled

French for weekend:  le week-end.  No joke.

I'm there!  I'd like to let it warm up a bit though!!

Isis and her man...can't speak for them, but I'd say it's better than an even chance!!
