As to the rest of your post......... WHAT??

The mountains in Oregon aren't considered part of the Cascades ?  Or is the Cascade range just Washington state ?

Oh, why yes....... yes, they are. I cross the Cascade Range when we go camping at the Ochoco actually, or when we go to Mt Hood, or Crater Lake. I camp every summer at 3 Sisters, which is right now an "active" volcano in the Cascades.   But the best fishing around too.  :D ... and when I go to Weiser, Idaho- we cross the Cascades. They run the whole length of Oregon.  Not far from me at all, about an hour or so.

Yeah, I do like coffee and Baileys too. (or Carolann's..... or Dugans.....or O'Mara's) Good stuff.... in limited quantities anyhow.

Just to help keep this thread stay on subject and stay alive.....

I sing because it releases stress and heals me from the inside out. It has a tremendous calming effect for me. I love to entertain and be entertained and that has always been my main objective when I go out to sing.

My singing has definately attracted the opposite sex. When I was single I always recieved plenty of attention from the ladies due to my ability to croon a good tune. And the answer to the thread question is .....I did not always go out to sing in hopes of picking up someone however I never ruled out the possibility of it happening.

Picking up women in bars was never my style as I was never really into one night stands. On the other hand it did put me into situations that I could meet some really nice women and I had some great times.

One lady I dated for a while ended up being a great friend and later she introduced me to Tina (my wife) and we fell in love and have been married now for about 1-1/2 years.

Karaoke has been good to me!!

Oh gosh, have I BEEN "on topic" here yet?

Hmmm, I don't recall, and don't really want to read back through that many pages, so.....

I would never in a million years pick someone up in a bar, or try to BE picked up in a bar. Grocery store, maybe- shopping mall, maybe- Daytona Speedway, most definately- but a bar, never ever.

A one night stand, with a "stranger", would hold no appeal for me. And I assume, by you saying "do you SING in hopes of picking up someone".... that you mean in a bar setting. Would never try to sing to attract anyone either- even if that would work- I wouldn't do it.

There- now I've adressed the topic too. Now enough of that nonsense- back OFF topic for me.

I seldom have the radio on anymore,  but I just heard a pretty m/f duet  that I never heard before...

What is the song that has ending lyrics,  something like

Butterflies are free to fly
Why do they fly away
but you know that I was always by your side.. (this is the last sentence they sing)

Sounds a little like Cheryl Crowe and someone else..

It's just nice to hear actually music between "I jus wanna fly put yo arms around me"... and  "Don't worry mama I'm cleaning out my clawzit"..  Some of the weird variety this station is playing is bizarre... Classic ballad,  now Scorpions.... and next it'll be "Wattup Bis, wurd to you mama 'n SHEEET"....   :(

Dang I feel quasi-cultural 'n stuff   :drunk:

I found it on AOL Music.... still listening actually. You can even watch the video of it there. It's on her new cd "Wildflowers"... which is why I haven't heard it. I haven't had the chance to go get her new cd yet.

That is a great one,  one of those "goosebumps on my arms" types of songs. I like it. I've never heard alot of Sting, but I think they compliment each other vocally pretty well. Glad you mentioned it Steven, I might just go get that new cd.  :D

It's gorgous,  I've got a copy of it now..  It's on the 1995 album Wildflower.  I never knew just how versatile Crowe really is.  THis is very different for her,  gorgeous voice here... Very clean, excellent quality, no raunch at all.  I should've known though.  She started off as a "stunt" singer for Michael Jackson, She's known to be able to do amazing things with her voice,  I've just yet to hear it, cept for now.... Very nice...

That's precisely why I like her. She can go from rocking you out of your chair, to singing a soft ballad that'll tear your heart out. And her voice fits them ALL. There's not many of her songs I've heard that I don't like. (a few, but not many)

I would LOVE to be able to jump back & forth like that, and have my voice suit many different styles & types of songs. Guess that's why she's so popular, huh?

Anyhow, again, I'm glad you turned me onto that one.....  :D

I've heard that about quite a few stars actually. Ah well, I want to listen to them, not be their buddies..... so I don't care. I have heard Sara Evans is a real character.... and she lives right here close to me. Her ranch is in Jefferson, which is about 1/2 hour up the road on the freeway. Some people let fame & stardom go to their heads I guess.

Here, I've got the chord changes in my head to the chorus

This is what she sings:
It just starts off with Bb major to F major (2nd inv) over A bass

and she sings;  <My yesterdays are all boxed up and neatly put away>...

Ending chorus.....

If Butterflies ------ D minor 3rd inversion over D bass note
are free to fly------A major over  Db bass note
why do they fly----D minor 3rd inversion over C bass note
away   --------------G dom7 over B bass note
leaving me ---------Bb major
to carry on ---------Bb major over C bass note
and wonder why----D minor 3rd inversion over D bass
                               D minor 3rd inversion over C bass
was it you that--------Bb major
kept me wondering---Bb major over C bass
thru this life------------D minor 3rd inv over D bass note
D minor 3rd inv over C bass note
when you know--------Bb
that I was always------Bb major over C bass note
on your side-------------Bb major over F bass note
                                   F major chord

beginning two chords--Bb maj
F major (2nd inv) over A bass note

AL FINIS:

Just slow ballad two chords per line.... even play just D minor to get the idea.. It's easy to do it on a keyboard... You'll likely know the song... I personally never heard it before,  but she's really good,  Sting also didn't sound like Sting,  more like Paul McCartney IMHO...

I think her first big hit was "All I wanna Do"...  THat was her big radio entrance into top 40 I believe...  That goes back to the mid-90's.  Perhaps 95...because I was fighting with bass players insisting that the bassline IS NOT the same as the "Steelers Wheel" song Stuck in the middle with you...  There was a big controversy about that...LOL.  Some people can't differentiate between the two bass lines, thing is.... That was the first time I'd heard of her,  shortly before that she was with Michael Jackson

Dave,  Just because you invited her back to Isis house to share the couch with you, and she said no, doesn't mean she's really a (@$%&#!)  LMAO

"All I Wanna Do" was on "Tuesday Night Music Club"...and I know for certain it was '94, because I only worked for this company (think blue and yellow, with a pricetag for a logo) during that year.  She did the second in-store appearance, and first in-store performance, in the company's history that day...and I got drafted for crowd control.  (The first was New Kids On The Block...also in that store, after they had been "reborn" as NKOTB...I worked crowd control that day too...and some of the offers I got...   Let's just say Keith woulda had a field day!!)

Anyway...Sheryl Crow was ok with the lines of fans she was signing stuff for...but she was EVIL to the store employees!!

I know I wasn't in Texas back then...I'm not sure whether or not Isis was...so, no, it wasn't HER couch!!

Seriously though...she was just MEAN to us.

I was also struck by how TINY she is...without her shoes, if she makes 5', I'd be surprised!

Probably was 94 Dave, I certainly believe that.. It's just that I have a tendency to guestimate songs were written earlier than they usually are... The guys I was arguing with were in a Fidenet stationary board "guitar"...So that makes sense...Yet for some reason I'd have assumed if I guessed that, I'd have lost money...LOL... I just always guess WAY too early for the most part...When was Crash Test Dummies...MMMMMM..  That song I loved... Was that around 91 ?

I used to think  "renaissance rock"   LMAO   It just had the chorale, etheric ancient sound.. closet thing to the renaissance period since Jethro Tull's "Wond'ring Aloud"
Sort've new-age renaissance liturgical sounding.. LOL
