Hello...I have had enough headaches with trying to figure out how to use Audacity. I am by far not computer saavy. I am thinking about hooking up my karaoke machine up to my pc sound card, however, since I'm not computer saavy, I'm running into the problem of how to hook it up. I have the wire that has the 3 rca hook ups on both ends ( red, white, and yellow). one end that connects to my player and the other would hook up to my tv. What kink of adapter would I need to get the 3 plugs to go into my sound  card? Thanks so much for your help. Have a great day!   :?

you will need a 1/8 stereo plug to go into your sound card that converts to 2 RCA jacks on the other end. Buy a cable that has these connections and ample length to suit your situation. The Red and White RCA's will be the ones you will use to connect to your Player. The yellow is for Video which you will not use for recording in CEP.

You will connect the 1/8" stereo plug end into your line in on you sound card and this will allow you to import the audio from your player into your computer.

Your microphone will connect with a 1/8" connection as well. If your microphone has a 1/4" connector you will need to buy an adapter to reduce it to 1/8" All of these products are available at your local RadioShack or audio store.

I personally run my microphone through a small mixer board that I picked up just for this purpose. It cost me $40 at my local guitar center store. I run a 1/4" to 1/8" cable to the "mic in" on my computer. It boosts the signal to the computer so I do not have to change the Amplitude settings in CEP. This works best for me!!

Hope this helps

You do not need the karaoke machine for recording. Bypass it and go direct thru the pc. Learn how to use the recording software. here are some link that may help

okay guys....thank you so much for replying. I will give the audacity one more try and if it doesn't work, then I'm gonna try through my karaoke machine to the pc.

I might be back for more help, if I get snagged. Thanks again you guys!  :)

It seem you don't understand. You NEED a recording software to record to pc. It does not matter if you go thru the karaoke machine or  not. And Audacity is one of the easiest to use

Why work with hard to use when there is easier to use software out there. the line in sampling of audiograbber is much easier to use for novicees.

you can get that software free at  www.audiograbber.com-us.net

it is very easy to use.
It's what I used before I got roxbox which comes with a recorder.
In fact Now that I think about it I might just go back to it since it will convert to mp3 for me while I have to use goldwave to convert my recordings from the roxbox recorder. I just like the roxbox as I don't have to press anything other than play to start the recording and it stops when the song stops.
