To quote Ferris Bueller...
"A man with his priorities that far out of whack does not deserve such a fine automobile!"

They were...chocolate was a standard-issue ration for quick energy, plus the feeling of well-being it gave the guys. But chocolate bars didn't work to well in tropical heat. So, candy shell, and they melt in your mouth...

Chocolate has antidepressant properties. As does that other stuff that gives guy's a general feeling of well-being, yet it usually melts in the hand, not in the mouth.

If you're eating them alone..... the peanut ones. If playing "swap".... or something like that.... it would have to be the plain. Can't find any romance at all in the peanut kind. LOL
And as to the Duke Boys....... good lord, no less than BOTH of them. :hi5:

Here is a little history on the M & M:
"M&M's"® History
Who would have guessed that the idea for "M&M's"® Plain Chocolate Candies was born in the backdrop of the Spanish Civil War? Legend has it that on a trip to Spain, Forrest Mars Sr. encountered soldiers who were eating pellets of chocolate that were encased in a hard sugary coating to prevent them from melting. Inspired by this idea, Mr. Mars went back to his kitchen and invented the recipe for "M&M's"® Plain Chocolate Candies.
First sold to the public in 1941, "M&M's"® Plain Chocolate Candies became a favorite of American GIs serving in World War II. Packaged in cardboard tubes, "M&M's"® Plain Chocolate Candies were sold to the military as a convenient snack that traveled well in any climate. By the late 1940's, they became widely available to the public, who gave them an excellent reception. In 1948, the packaging changed from a tube form to the characteristic brown pouch known today.

Okay so when did the nuts get added? to the candy, not the forum

I always did like the peanut M&M's, that is until I broke a tooth on one. M&M's started to lose some flavor around 1967 when they changed the tan colored ones to blue. The blue just don't taste the same ! I was telling this to Milo elsewhere. Blue M&M's are blasphemous ! True orthodox M&Mer's can tell the color of the M&M with their eyes closed ! Blues contaminate the whole batch ! LOL I like Blue as a color, but NOT for an M&M !! That should be outlawed ! What's next ? Plastic gyroscopes, and viewmaster using material's other than bakelite ? God forbid, before you know it, Scrabble will be using plastic pieces for letters.

plain m&m's every time...the peanut m&ms are fine but i prefer unadulterated chocolate (the sugar coating is a bonus). i think they changed the name to milk chocolate when they tried to launch dark chocolate m&m's when the final star wars episode came out...and they were a little bit of heaven on earth!
you can order the fancy colored ones online by the pound...as if a pound of m&ms (ANY kind) is enough.
does anyone else sort them and make color combinations or have i just proven how off the wall i really am?

One day I'll catch her sorting those little M&Ms and hit the table with a blast of compressed air. That'll teach her.
Nah, I'd never do that.
