Actually you don't have to be stuck at the Spinning Wheel or Denny's for an entire night.  The two places are like 1/4 mile up the road from each other.  Neither place would have a cover charge. (The Wild Hare doesn't have karaoke anymore.)  That's about as close to bar hopping that you can get in Canby.

So start off at Denny's then end up at Spinning Wheel. Make it a bar-hopping adventure----but make sure spinning wheel doent have a band booked in on the same night.

Good point. We're going to double check all this out with the Spinning Wheel.  Charmin said the owner still isn't sure what he wants to do as far as entertainment in general.  All he knows is he wants to make some money.  Right now he doesn't have Kindling playing every weekend.  We'd make sure that the owner was open to scheduling karaoke for that night in August.

An alternative would be the BeaverCreek Saloon near Oregon City--but that I think thats a weeknight only thing. I went there one night with Matt(Knightshow).

Or possibly Woodburn--theres a couple places down there--The Endzone and The Bunker.

In North Wilsonville is the Holiday in they have it on Thursday I think--real nice room and dance floor, good selection--but they dont have a cdg player--all computerized and it closes at midnight i think. Nice restaurant and the good rooms if your trvelling.

In Tualatiin is The Hotseat Bar and Grille and also the CI Tavern---I like C & I Danny the KJ will blow live sax behind you if you request. Hes there on wed nights

Dr. Johns in O-city---but thats more of a young kids bar--real loud and noisy and very hard rock & hip-hop

The Rivershore on 99E in Oregon city would be a good bet---nice restaurant--nice hotel and easy to find just off I-5. Nice room and setting --Kj is easy to work with too. Fri-Sat.

Of all of them Id choose Rivershore in Oregon City,  Holiday Inn at Wilsonville or the Spinning Wheel in Canby or BeaverCreek Saloon in Beavercreek.  Ive done storys at all of these except Spinning Wheel.

Well heck if we are going to woodburn or willsonville why not consider going to McQueen's or the Porterhouse in Milwaukie/Oakgrove area, both are really nice places and plenty of room, good sounds etc.

Denny's can handle us depending on how many people we have.

Liberal Democrats can be of any gender, orientation, race or religion...so don't think you can identify them by looks alone.

Well, if they are just poor, ignorant, hard working, honest folks, then it sounds like a good nuff place.

McQueens would be a good bet--but you'd have to do some of the KJ'ing!

Kurt...... I'll give my opinion on both Holiday Inn and Rivershore, since I've been to both.

Rivershore is a cool place, nicely set up, and a good sound system. Lots of room, and the KJ was pretty cool. He did a good job of staying attuned to the singer. There was a smallish crowd, maybe 15-18 people... and all of a sudden the bar owner decided it was too slow and he wanted to close up. Last call was made BEFORE midnight, and karaoke ended prior to 12:30....... NEVER have I seen a karaoke and the whole bar shut down so early. (hmmmm... maybe it was my singing?)  LOL

If I ever went there again, I'd dang sure want to know it wouldn't close so early. I left OC, and got to Denny's in time to still have over an hour left to sing. (good ol' Denny's... haha)

Holiday Inn was the best set up bar I've ever seen..... I loved the dance floor, he had tons of lighting, it was cool. And his equipment was adequate.... but personal opinion, he's the worst KJ I've ever seen. He was very nice,  and he was a "fun" KJ, I just think he needs to go take a few courses on Karaoke 101. I don't think he had any effects on the mic at all, it sounded pretty bare, and he didn't adjust for anyone. One girl sang so quietly, you couldn't even hear her.... and I swear, on a fast/upbeat song of mine, I had to hold the mic about 6 inches from my mouth. (this night, not knowing a soul in the crowd, I didn't want to ask him to turn my mic down... and I would never tell him to add effects.... I think that's covered in another thread, haha)  And he had only computer based karaoke, no back up machine other than a regular cd player. I sang some of my own cdg's, but my only option was with no lyrics on the screen. Which, was fine, but made people look at me funny. (and I had nothing to STARE at while I sang)  LOL  I wouldn't go to that place again, I certainly don't like places where the KJ can't run his equipment right, nor even try to.  That place, was kinda like getting a bright shiny car...... that runs like shiyit.

Maybe Matt will have a KJ gig that night? I dunno where he does it now, but it seems like I recall him saying it was pretty small too. But his venue would be fun.

And, no more Tachos either. We went there again one time, after the Halloween thing, and the KJ played a dance mix in between EVERY singer (bar rules he said)..... and then my hubby kinda started a bit of an argument in the bar, and I had to do the "Get in the daym truck or I'm leaving you" thing..... so nope, I wont go there anymore.    I'm sure they'd remember me.....they'd for sure remember Lonnie.

Wherever it is, it would be cool to have you there to do the story. Sorry I haven't done that myself yet, you know I had the best of intentions... LoL. This will be a good opportunity though. (just..... after I've had a few drinks.... camera goes OFF, okay?) Or, just keep it focused on Sharon & Odie.  LOL

Blue - Matt moved to Kansas City Missouri so it will probably not be in the cards for him to do a show.

The Rivershore is a real wild card. Nice place but can be unpredictable on scheduling as Charmin says. Since Al left I'm not sure they have much of a crowd anymore.

Kurt - Rod does a great job of KJ'ing for me and as discussed I'm turning the show over to him in a week or so anyway. McQueens is a perfect location though.

I'm really open on location....just want to make sure it is an upscale place, good mix and big enough to accomodate our crowd.

Any Idea how many forum members will be in attendance? You can almost double that as spouses will be with us as well.

Well u guys figure out the place you wanna go---i was only giving alrternatives to spinning wheel if it couldnt be booked reliably and since the idea seemed to be to stay as close to canby as possible..

As to closing early Porterhouse is NOTORIOUS for that. They close it early at a drop of a hat. They closed early so many times on weeknights that they finally dropped the Sun-Wed nights completly and and are now only Thurs-Sat. So if thats a concern I'd look elesewhre. But I think they have one of the nicest cleanest rooms and one of the best sound systems out there. Food is VERY GOOD there too.

Charm-When did  you go back to Tachos and who was the KJ that night? They have a girl DJing now.

But it really makes little difference to me where it ends up. All of the places have pluses and minuses. If the room is ok then the DJ will be wrong. If the sound system is very good then there will be no dance floor. If the location is great then they will close ealy.  Just pick a date and someplace and nail it down. Someone will need to make a firm decision.

Ive been down to Rivershore twice in the last couple months and it was full both times.

Al is at Porterhouse again doing a talent scout show of somekind.

As to Holiday Inn cant really complain about the sound system or the KJ my only gripe there is they have no CDG machine. I very much like the layout, seatting arrangment, dance floor and the fact they have on-site accomodations and dining for those travelling up here for the meet. Rivershore also.

The person at Rivershore is the guy that was there just before they brought Al back to Porterhouse.

As to photos in the story-it will be a group photo posed around the mic.

As to my location preference--someplace that's clean, doenst stink of cigarette smoke and is not going to be cramped and tiny. And with the KJ being one of the KS people--to highlight and spotlight thier show in the story and have a clue about why we are all there. Thats why I mentioned McQueens and Flipper KJing part of the the show there.

Hey we appreciate all of the suggestions you gave and I agree that we need to nail something down. Once we get a good fix on how many we will have we can pick the spot. I'm sure McQueens would be happy to accomodate us. I will check to see what they have booked for Birthday Parties for that weekend. Perhaps Odie or Charmin could speak with Denney's  and see what they got cookin on those dates as well.

The group picture and article for KS would be cool :worship:

I could make it to Tacoma on the 26th for Lonman. I have the entire weekend off.

I have a private party that is booked on the 19th (saturday) that I booked like 9 months ago. Can't substitute another KJ so I'm stuck doing the show.

Looks like the only date I'm available for a Portland or Canby function is Friday the 18th.
