I just remembered the song You Better You Bet, also turns me on. I think it is a Pavlovian thing. It  also causes some performance anxiety.

I enjoyed meeting you and your wife. I wish we could have come down this weekend. My loss.

There are a lot of songs by the Glengarry Bhoys, that do a lot toward getting me into the mood.

I really shouldn't even post in this thread. Guys usually don't need help "getting into the mood".

Chuck,

I think Swing, Swing, Swing was Benny Goodman and his orchestra. There is a famous old recording that they did at Carnegie Hall.  Recording equipment being what it was those days, they strung a mic cable (or maybe it was cables) from another building where the recording equipment was so they could record the concert. It's a classic!

Another of my favorites is just about any cut from the first album that Linda Ronstadt did with the Les Brown Orchestra.  Later in an interview she said that what she had in mind was making an album that people could "make out" to.  I can attest to the fact that it's perfect for that.

For the younger set (practically all of you) "make out" was the term your parents used for what your grand parents called "pitching woo".  I'll leave it to you to figure it out!

Larry

I was just listening to and reading up on that BG Carnegie Hall concert from 1938.  I think you guys mean Sing, Sing, Sing.  But I also think there's a vocal version of the same song called Swing, Swing, Swing.  That whole concert was recorded using only three microphones -- one towards the left side of the stage, one near the podium and one on the right side.  The engineer didn't even monitor and adjust levels throughout the night. He just did an initial volume check and let it roll!

OK, I'll shut up now and stop this hijacking.  Now back to our regularly scheduled program!

Thanks Odie, that helped a lot.

Now I found a page that says that Benny Goodman wrote it.

I haven't contributed here because there's really no single song for me.  ANY song along the lines of Stylistic's, Spinner's, Commodore's, Freddie Jackson type 1970's R&B Love Ballads are quite appealing to me when done very well ~

I don't mind babbling.

I hope I am not in the minority.
