From "West Side Story," Maria later was sung beautifully by many singers, including Matt Monro. I'm singing his version here. I used MTU's Vogone program to remove most of Monro's original vocal; you might notice some faint artifacts of his vocal, as a result of the way his original was recorded in the studio. In many cases, the advantage of using Vogone, rather than purchased karaoke, is the superior instrumentation found on an original. I double-tracked the three "Maria"s in the mid-point of the song. I also laid down the final "Maria" separately, as it presents the most challenging high notes of the song for me, and I hated "wasting" all that work on a bad ending. Well, I hope you enjoy my version. There's still room for improvement, but here's where I am on this song for now. |
